Az'z 99 CE Mirage

Thought I better start a thread as a few others have done so, and they have been a great read..
Hope you enjoy.

So this is my new Mirage
Mirage.jpg

Bought it for $3500, He wanted $4999 but there was no chance I was paying that..Car yards make enough profit :D
It came with large Zorst & tint, so was happy with that. Pretty tidy little car, body good except for small ding in drivers side front quarter panel which has made the bonnet lift a bit. But I will fix that in time.
First thing to change was the crappy head unit they had in it. Press the vol button and would go fully up and couldn't get down.
Ive always gone Sony Xplod, so that was the choice and JB had them on special :D $60 with 2 front speakers..
sony.jpg

I would like to get amp & sub soonish. But for now it sounds pretty good..

Next was a Tacho I had laying about, I didn't want to see the crappy mounting bracket that came with it, So I attached to dash and then made 2 slits in dash mat and poke the bracket through. Came up pretty good I thought.

I was told that aftermarket Tacho's couldn't be put on CE lancer/Mirages so I never bothered with my last Lancer, but when I got the Mirage I had a bit of look on Google and found some info and gave it a bash, end result... WORKING! So I don't know where the hell that mechanic/auto sparky got his info from, maybe too lazy to install.

I then when on Ebay hunting for stuff.... BAD MOVE!!!! :D
I have always wanted neon's :shifty: :shifty: .. so this car was my chance
On the weekend I connect the sides, (Front & Rear coming this week) They look like this:
CLICKY HEREY

Nice strip LED really easy to install, and best of all DIRT CHEAP!
So I went outside last night to check them out...

I also wanted the pinstripes off.. 1 Black 1 Green
On:
pinon.jpg

Off:
pinoff.jpg

And then onto the crappy flaps
On:

Off:

Both front & rears are done, makes it look heaps better.

So this weekend I'm off to spotlight after being inspired by Cesario's thread, and I'm going to start re-doing the door cards.

I'll keep updating the thread when I do more things... And yes Wheels coming soon... mortgage must be paid first apparently WTF!!!!

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

looks clean from my phone

Also, i noticed colourcoded side mirrors and door handles, which was never dealer/factory offered with mirage's, so someones gone the extra step for it. Looks good, i remember when i had such a clean base haha

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

that front grill looks good. take a bigger pic of it! looks like a good buy, well done!
Arent those neons illegal or can you turn them off?

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

Thanks, I'll grab some more pics this weekend.

I was told in WA that Neons are OK as long as you cant see the globe, you definitely cant see the globe, they are well tucked under.
I can only turn them off via the headlight switch ATM but that will change, I pretty much only hooked them up to check them out.

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

i would put a independant kill switch for them

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

Yea I would put in switches. I'm yet to put in switches. I usually have one for everything. Amp, fog lights, neons plus any other gizmos I have. they look awesome when you have the right ones plus it gives you the freedom to shut off stuff when you need too (cant have sub on with the missus in the car and my last car had a missile switch for it) plus when you see certain law enforcers you need to be able to shut it all off or you can expect some un wanted attention

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

neons legal in wa.

defs gonna have to come on a cruise if i ever can get my ass togrther

Nice work so far! But neon's? Seriously? Welcome to the early 90's.

Thanks ;)

HAHAH I know I know.... But I have ALWAYS wanted them since they became available but never been in a position to buy them until now. And I'm still a kid deep down.
I know some ppl don't like neons or cannons, but I do, and if we all liked the same thing we would be all very boring :D

Anyways, I did some searching....

W.A Laws on Neons:

IB-108B
Vehicle Safety and Standards
Information Bulletin
Under-Body Lighting and other Decorative Illumination

Under-body lamps
Constant coloured neon lamps are sometimes affixed to the underside of vehicles to enhance their aesthetic character. Subdued diffused coloured light is reflected off the road surface.
Generally these under-body lamps will be acceptable providing the lights themselves do not flash, and are not visible to other motorists, either when the vehicle is driven or stationary.
Prohibition on flashing lamps
Other than turn signal indicators and flashing warning lamps for emergency vehicles, flashing lamps are prohibited by the Road Traffic Code 2000.
Consequently aftermarket lamps must not be wired to flash in any way. This includes lamps that have been designed to flash in sympathy with the output of sound systems. “Sound sensitive sub woofer neons” and similar products are therefore not permitted.
Note: In some cases, a strobe effect by any lamp, internally or externally mounted to a vehicle, may adversely affect individuals prone to epilepsy who are exposed to the flashing light. A person does not need to be an occupant of that vehicle for this to occur.
Electrical wiring of additional lamps
Additional lamps must be electrically wired independently of all other lamps and must include a separate switch. The switch should be located in a position that allows the driver to easily turn the lamps on or off. Wiring must not interfere with any of the vehicle’s controls and must not cause the vehicle to contravene the Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 2002, the Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Rules 2002 or the Australian Design Rules (ADRs).
Other safety requirements
“Electro-luminescence Cord” must not be used in a way that it is visible to any other road users if it is designed to flash or if its appearance is likely to cause confusion, distraction or a nuisance to other road users. Similarly if the additional lamps are likely to diminish the conspicuity of any statutory lighting requirements such as turn indicators or brake lamps, the additional lamps must not be used.
IB-108B - Application date May 10 page 1 of 2 IB-108B (Application date May 2010) page 2 of 2
A vehicle fitted with coloured lighting can be given a compliance notice (defect notice/yellow sticker)
A vehicle fitted with coloured lighting can be given a compliance notice:

Under-body lamps are visible when viewed by another driver whilst seated in a low vehicle.

Where under-body lamps are fitted, there exist chromed under-body car components which may reflect the light unacceptably towards other road users.

The lamps fitted can be confused with turn indicators, brake lamps, emergency warning lamps, etc.

The lighting diminishes the conspicuity of other statutory lighting requirements.

The lamps flash or if they can be made to flash.

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

I got asked to show some pics of the install of the LED (neons)

This is the LED strip (you can see where I degreased before sticking them on):
ledunder.jpg

This is were I bought it from:
CLICKY

This is where I wired them through. I looped through the hole so the wire would not droop. I have also cable tied the wire at both ends in case the LED drops:
wirethroughinner.jpg

And this is where it came up through the front inner guard to the door rubber seal and into the car behind the dash:
doorwire.jpg

I also got some new parker lights the other day.. A bit bright when on by themselves but once the headlights come on, they dull:

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

oh yes yes i remember. i have a mate with white neons and he told me the cops just wanted him to hide the light source better, so you can only see the light on the road and its all good. and those parkers, i had blue ones which were that bright, but soon changed them to white cuz you could still see blue when the headlights were on n didnt like it. i like white cuz it looks nice and modern

Re: Azza's 1999 Mirage

Im going to take them out on the weekend, I think they look OK, but I can think of other places Id rather them and not going to get in the shiz from the boys in blue.
