Pod Filters vs Panel Filters for the CE Lancer

as i said a bit earlier, would be squishy getting pipe to that grill there, but not to say it cant be done, you could jimmy up some thin rectangular pipe or very flat oval like you said

if you do go that route, make sure you dont have the pipe going over the exhaust mani/extractors as heat rising from there will be VERY hot, so make a bend to avoid that area, and where it passes by the radiator and exhaust maybe heat wrap it for best protection ,if you really worried about that, its not absolutly neccessary, it probably will help the longjevity of the intake piping and silicone bends tho ;)

How many bends does it take to offset the gain caused by avoiding the heat from the exhaust??

just bought a pod cover [ about 60% coverage if that ] having the pod low under car i feel this cover will assist in stopping any stones etc etc hitting the filter which we don,t want plus theres less chance of water hitting the element.

what pod did u end up with?
pod cover is good for legality aswell, not much water/dirt will hit the pod most likely, michaels pod is very low down and its still in good nick after many a year without a cover
(also proving k&n a good pod)

Res, i bought the 3A Racing brand. plus i thought having this small cover will keep the pod abit safer and still draw good air flow of course.

should of went with a k&n pod. i had a drift on one made great noise under throttle but i can feel that the k&n one is giving it that little bit better performance

firstly the price tag difference between the k&n brand and the 3a brand i just bought [ say $70 ] as mentioned a report was given and the 3A came out very well .

3A has best flow... not necessarily the best filtration (correct me if im wrong paul)

i myself am an apexi man, even tho i have a k&n right now, but the apexi non-oiled filter with dual cones for better flow and equal filtration to k&n has me sold on them, price tag is not an issue for me

nah spot on there. just dont drive through a dust storm and you'll be right

Hey everyone, new on the forum, I have a 2001 1.5 CE and I'm just wondering what you think of how I installed my pod?
I took the plastic cover off the hole in front of the left wheel, covered it with three layers of fly wire and fed a pipe from behind it up to the pod. I figure while I'm driving the air will be blown through the pipe up to the pod keeping it cool, and it's safe from any water/rocks because they can't get up the pipe.
Also since I'm in WA does it need to be covered or is it fine how it is?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey mate, no bad at all. could be helped a bit by building a small plastic/sheet steel/fibreglass box over the pod.

Otherwise it will only be sucking cold air from one side.

advice; enclose the pod when you get some spare time/money
having the pipe is better than just hot air, but at the rate its sucking air it will still be mostly hot air its sucking

also the breather thign there does nothing, i used to have one there. no effect what so ever. all its doing is suckign hot air

having it sealed away from the hot air is 100x better

get rid of the mini breather up the back of ur pipe it is only sucking hot air. and either fully cover the pod or put a heat sheild on it covering it from most of the heat. and can't tell if u have any hole in the front bar for it bit if not put one there

Your from wa.... :D

But yes your pod needs to be enclosed to... distract the local po-po... not a bad setup though, and as said get rid of the mini filter since it's just gonna get bad rep :p

Hey, so I finally got around to making a box for it. I took the mini filter off and replaced it with a blue bottle cap, and painted the brackets blue.
It looks dodgy as hell but I'm proud of it.

And I put the lid on a hinge so I can take the pod out without taking apart the whole lot!

step 2: go to clark rubber or bunnings and buy some thin U shaped rubber. will finished it off better.

also, grind down those bolts if you can

other then that, not bad for a bunnings DIY, kudos for doing it yourself

replace those bolts with rivets and it will loook a lot cleaner.

Looks pretty trick tho!! Nice work

So put the rubber around the top edge/lid? That's an awesome idea, can't grind down the bolts though. Mainly because I'm too lazy.

I should totally put neons in it. And under the car. And around all the windows. And in the footwells. And on the spoiler. And on the front grille.

Just kidding.

WTH???

Just replace the bolt with rivets, run a bead of clear silicon along all the permanent joins in your box, and put some U section rubber around the top to make sure it seals nicely!.
