N/A evo

The biggest thing that worries me (ignoring the whole going non-turbo evo) is why did he have the whole engine out of the car to just do a turbo upgrade? Sounds to me like theres another issue there, unless he was swapping everything onto an Aust delivered CC. Have you looked into if the car is rego'd? And if it's not, if it can actually be registered for road use? I thought the earlier model evos could only be brought in as personal imports, or was that only the 1-2's?

he was doing something to the gearbox so it came out, hell im not complaining i bought my CE for approx 3, so to say i have an Evo for that cheap is just a dream come true haha, it needs a few things done to it, but my dads a mechanic, so doing the little things wont be much hassle, i was just wondering about if the evo engine would run N/A, but it looks like id just be better off getting a new turbo for it. eitherway who cares it looks cool :p

i havnt read any of this thread, but theres a guy on his p's goin round penrith in an evo, id say theyve just bypassed the turbo. duno if this is relevant to anything. but thought u might wana know :)

yeah i thought i could just bypass it with a different manifold until i got my full license then i could just whack a turbo on there, but it seems alot more complex then that

you'll need a tune, and you dont need a different mani, all you do is run a short ram intake outa the throttle body like normal. and make sure the turbos covered or some *poo*. lol

i meant exhaust manifold (headers or whatever you desire to call them) to bypass the turbo

so you wouldnt need to change to ECU or anything?

Don't do it, not worth it, the engine is built to run with boost like paulie said the comp ratio's are set for a turbo. and it will cost too much to tune. DON'T DO IT

this may sound like the most stupid question but would it harm the engine not having it tuned? because it wont get much action anyway, its not like i would use it as a daily. Like im not fussed if its heaps sluggish or whatnot, because surely it would still have more power than the 1.5 i have now even without the tune?

if your running no boost, and not tune to match , the car will run rich as

3.5k for an EVO3 is a steal!! we only just sold an EVO3 with blown motor for 20k about 2months ago :p
Mayeb you mean GSR with evo kit or a GLXi with EVO kit lol
An EVO 4G63T engine has low compression, so if you riop the turbo off and run it N/A the engine would go like a bag of balls, even a festiva will beat you lol

would i be able to just get a non turbo 4g63 engine's ecu for it to be running the right tune (well close to it anyway)

No, the compression is due to the pistons, got nothing to do with the ECU

Nah i checked the VIN and its a propper Evo 3, im not too fussed about power at the moment, its not like ill take it to the track or flog it or anything due to i lose my license for 3 months minimum if im caught doing stupid *poo*

buy it, garage it, keep driving the ce

end thread. anything else will be:
a) too costly
b) stupid
c) waste of time
d) all of the above

Whats the VIN?? i will tell you if its genuine, theres only 18 EVO3s in Australia
And if it is, is it a yellow plate or a 6TREP car??
