N/A evo

hi guys, i found a guy selling an evo but its without a turbo and the engine isnt in the bay

its pretty cheap so im thinking about it. however would an evo happily run without a turbo without any modifications? or would i need to buy a new ECU and everything like that (other than the manifold and exhaust)

its definitely an evo, but would it run happily without a turbo, until i save enough enough to turbo it again?

link?
and you will need a tune/new ECU
~cost ontop of engine for tune is alot
would almost cost less to just returbo it instead of tune to na

Its a local guy so no links,

I cant have a turbo yet as im still on my greens,

approx how much would it cost to get running without the turbo? cause i intend on whacking a turbo on once i get my full license

alot...
also are u sure its the right orientation engine for your car?
ie; if you have a CC chassy u need an E-1,2,3 engine, and if your CE chass u need an E-4,5,6,6.5
(7,8,9 can fit CE but its a bit more work than above)

if u have the right orientation your looking at
costs your looking at are as follows and probably more;
engine cost
locking the diff to fwd
fixing problems with engine
Tune $$$$$$$$$
custom zorst headers (as there are none for E-4->9 engines to my knowlege)
fitting engine

your easy looking at another 3++ grand ontop of the engine cost

FIY your alos looking at costs of UNDO-ing all of that work when u go to turbo it again.
not worth it unless your extremely committed

no no no its a propper evo like its an evo 3, the guy pulled the turbo out of it to upgrade it to a bigger one and sold the other one and got over the project so he is selling it, and i was going to get it as, but convert it to a running nonturbo for the time being, it comes with the engine and box and all already in it, just no turbo or turbo manifold, and i intend on making it N/A until i get my full license (approx 18 months)

res I think he wants to buy and run the evo na. Ur better off buying a evo with a turbo and then like a cheep run around till u get off ur greens

IMO, buy an EVO, run the risk of being caught on a turbo for how ever long you have left, if you get caught, the fine will most likely still be less that what it will cost to unturbo and EVO then returbo it.

Or just suck it up and dont buy one until your off your P's. Save a bit longer and get a better EVO

the engine isnt in the car currently as the turbo swap was underway, so he is selling as is. how much would it be to convert an evo to a non turbo

if the engine is out, then thats half the job done.

being evo 3 means you could probably find a non turbo DOHC 4g63 and put that in. then pull it out and put in a 4g63t when you're off P's.

dont go running a turbo 4g63 without a turbo. the cams and compression ratio are specifically made to suit boost.

bit of a f*ck round if you ask me and you'll get people want to race you and youll be like "na non turbo bro" and they speed off loling at you.

buy it, store it, buy another sh!tter to drive. build crazy turbo evo3. drive it like badass

Well i might aswell just put a turbo on it then and just drive around my ce and take the occasional sneeky drive hahahah

cost of evo +
$1,000 minimum to get it working
headers, tune, intake

I wouldnt bother, just dump the engine back in and wing it. To me it seems to much of an effort to do something that everyone does the opposite to for only a limited time, then swap back.

Check with your local road authorities as I think you still won't be allowed to drive it on your P's even if it has the turbo removed.

How is it silly? i could pick up the evo minus the turbo with only 100000 on the clock for 3500 i thought it would be a good idea

im pretty sure 98.7% of this forum are cheap uni students

I'm a statistic!

@Jonesy, mate its up to you really, the EVO 3s are cool, and if you can get a decent one minus turbo for cheap go for it. I would love an EVO 3

But just be prepared it may not be as simple as getting out your trust 10/12mm socket and bolting/unbolting a few things, if you are semi mechanical/practical, im sure youll work it out, have fun, and end up with a cool car.

Most people on here dream of having a boosted lancer, let alone an EVO, hence the comments about it being silly to buy an evo then unturbo.
