I bought this 2000 Lancer for my first car and I have very little knowledge of cars but after looking around I realize that this car performance is average. I was wondering if anyone could help me out on if I should bother modifying it. I was also wondering is my Lancer the same car as the mirage 2000 DE or whatever it is. I will appreciate this heaps if you guys help out.
I am looking to add a bit of torque to the ride more than anything.
for the record, I am new to this site.
Thanks,

Welcome to the nonsense a 4g15 is never going to be a powerhouse but improvements can be made with fuel quality and timing. The things I have done to my 1.5 are 98 octane fuel, timing adjustment, (done by rotating the distributor). I have also fitted extractors, a 2 inch exhaust and a 4g93 throttle body. Lots of folk will say not to bother with a 1.5 and do an engine swap but you can do a few things to any engine and make power. F1 engines are 1500 cc so it's good enough for them.

F1 engines are also a turbocharged V6 1600cc, limited to 15000rpm with pneumatic valve springs :p

I agree with Frosty, get a better air filter, open up the exhaust, and a decent service will do wonders for it.

Major service is the best way to sort out an old motor, make sure it's not choked up before you start trying to work it. So that'd be:

Oil & Filter
Air Filter
Spark plugs (Leads optional)
Fuel Filter (Pump optional)
Timing Belt
- Including water pump
Coolant change
Brake fluid change

Be sure also to give the car a good check over while you do all this - inspect for any leaks and service items like tyres and brakes that are due or even worn suspension components. Common items on these are the rocker cover gasket leaking, leaking shocks and a bit of coolant dribble from the water pump. If you come across due service items, their also a good opportunity for upgrades too - bigger brakes, bigger wheels and fresh tyres ;)
