so i got some time 2morro, so i thought id get some gear to instal my second amp for my sub
im not 100% on how to whack a 2nd one in, but i have a rough idea and im hoping its something like the leet as pic i drew up :p
distblockdiag001.png

if all this looks good, 2morro i will be picking up:
couple meters of 4ga wire
1x4ga-2x8ga distribution block
5m rca leads
12/16ga wire for sub to amp
some crimp plugs for leads
anything else?
i already have (bout 10m) of 8ga wire, 2x 8ga fuses
also should i ground my amps with some spare 8ga wire? over that crappy noodle stuff?

Need to know what sized amps mate.

But you will need a fuse right next to the battery on the 4GA wire and then use a fused distribution block.

I would be inclined to use 2GA depending on what the RMS power is to the distro block and then use 4GA to the amps. It's probably a bit overkill but atleast it allows you some flexibility if you choose to upgrade dwon the track.

Then use this neat little distro block: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.as ... rm=KEYWORD

Or a similar one from Stinger,etc....

If money is tight then you probably will be fine to run one 4GA wire and then split out to two short 8GA wires and then use this:

i reckon since iv already got half the gear, i might aswel go for the 4ga/8ga setup
i mean its gonna be a while before i upgrade the sound, (wanna get a new front bar first:p RIP droid bar :p)
what 4ga fuse would you recomend?

Check what the recommended fuse sizes are in your amps' manuals would be the best place to start....

i have 0gage to amps 4gage to subs, gets more power to the subs, think of a wire as a piece of hose, the bigger it is the more flow, but what your dong for you amp sound suffient

yeh its a pretty low end system and i dont really drive it hard, but it gets me by just fine, but i also have to make the sub in an easy spot to remove for when i throw all my gear in the boot when i go to onsite jobs, nothing worse than new computer hardware being fried from the giant ass manget :p
i will go shopping 2morro what i can pickup, hopefully get the whole lot
cheers for the input guys, given me alot to think about, lucky i didnt do it without asking, other wise if have to use my new fire ext early :p

Good luck with it, hope u don't have to use it, i've been there..lol

ok, well i i hooked it all up, all went well except for the fact now that now since the second amp and sub are connected im getting super bad engine noise through the stereo, its like really really bad, but when i dis connect the amp from power its fine, so i think im just gonna say F**** the whole things and rip it out cause im in a super s**** mood now
anyone wanna buy subs and amp? lol

nope, power cables are far away from rca leads/speaker cables/ground cables, ground is an 8ga and its short to a clean metal grounded surface, rca leads are twisted/double shielded,
so far it all seemed to be installed pretty well, it just didnt turn out well :(

out of interest, did you run your power cables through the cabin or under the car? I ran mine through convoluted tubing/sheathing under the car. That way it is far away from any factory cable runs within the car. Best way to reduce RFI/EM interference.

i ran it from the battery through the firewall and into the boot - the fairly strait forward noob way ;)

Have you run seperate earths straight from the amp to different bolts? If so, then I'd be more thinking that it's a problem with the head deck putting out a dirty signal, so what Tryg suggested might be a good spot to start. I think that product is essentially just some big power capacitors to smoothen out the harmonics in the car's 12V from the alternator...

I've got no problems in my car running two amps, although I have 2x 4GA supplies, so one for each amp. But I am running a 300WRMS 2ch amp and a 750WRMS monobloc, so they are a fair bit thirstier than your gear I'd say.

I do have some engine noise through my speakers, but that's because of the *poo*-house pre-amp in my ridiculously over-priced Pioneer AVIC GPS head deck,,,,

@tryg
oddly enough i have a noise filter lying around, so i tried it and there was a lot of impovement, but you can still clearly hear the engine, when the car isnt started its awesome, but as soon as you crank the engine thats when the noise kicks in

@ryan
i have actually heard that pioneer decks with that in built amp problem is really common, something to do with the head unit ground via the rca leads to the amp and not the ground wire :S
so thats what i reckon my main problem is cause iv got a pioneer deh - p59501b

why would you be using any pre-amp power? Have you amplified your door speakers? Or are you still running off the headunit power?

ok, i have my front and rear speakers connected to the amp and the amp connected to the head unit via rca cables
and the sub connected to the second amp and the second amp connected to the head unit via rca cables
no speakers are directly connected to the head unit, only power, ground, system control, rca leads
