Best bang for your buck handling mods

Well the plan was to go with the items listed first because the tyres I have now, which I bought the car with, are pretty decent and go for $160 each for a 14" wheel. So essentially I wanted to do the other handling mods first, run down the tyres I have then replace shocks, springs, wheels and tyres all together.

I have my eye on a full set of Kings springs going second hand for $100 bucks for a sedan but I dunno if that will give any real improvments without replacing shocks?

the idea is to have hard springs to reduce body roll in cornering , the shocks only help in bumps . i also own a pajero that is still fitted with factory springs / shocks and at present the pajero has less body roll than my ce coupe that is also fitted with stock suspension. i can,t comment on the kings etc as for there hard feel as i only know there ok for a drop down, the ultimate is definetly good quality coil over shocks if your willing to spend that much for a full set of 4.

I considered it but I would need to get wheels first.

The rules regarding ride height are that if you have a flat tyre only the rim should touch the ground as opposed to other parts of your car. If I got coils it would be super obvious I am below the ride height "minimum" since I'm only running stocky 14 inch alloys with "normal" profile tyres. That and it would look pretty bad LOL.

So I figure if I wanted to get coils I would need to get new wheels so really it would end up costing me in excess of $2000 to do that, and right now Im short of cash being a full time student n all.

coil overs are no different to other springs sets like kings etc , the wheel size also makes no difference . all shock types have the same mounting points and are well clear of the ground even if you should have a flat tyre theres no way anything other than your exhaust should touch the ground if that. only suspension set up that could be an issue is air bag gear.

still get swaybar first. no matter what springs u put in the back u will still get body roll like a beach without one, pleasures of independant rear sispension
+springs and shocks wear out, a swaybar will last the cars life most likely, make it much better in the corners than stock and give confort as the cornering will be flatter and u will get thrown round less. absolutly recomend. then springs and braces ;)

@lancermr, sorry man been busy as with uni, havent had much spare time during the day at all (i did forget a bit), remind me just beofre next friday as i will have that day off to get a postage quote for you ;)

Res, it would be one hell of alot quicker to just post these springs next friday rather than just going to the post office to get a quote then another week or so will go by before i can get them. if you don,t want to sell these please just let me know as xmas is coming closer and closer. cheers man.

First you have to make sure all your suspension is in good condition. If you have worn bushes the car will handle really poorly.

Also keep in mind 80% of your handling is your tire choice. Poor gripping tires with the best suspension will sill handle poorly.
What everyone neglected to mention is that the best bang for buck handling mod is a decent wheel alignment.

Now, assuming your suspension is in good condition and your tires are good, the best thing to do is a rear swaybar and adding some camber (you may need camber pins)

I have ordered the sway bar (inc mounting kit) and rotors just waiting on them to arrive.

Does anyone have any installation pics? Does the kit come with instructions of some sort?

Thanks.

im not sure if anyone has installation pics
but it might be worth taking lots of pictures when your installing it and making up a DIY thread to help other along the way :p

Will do as long as I figure out what the hell Im doing I will! Haha.

If anyone has a pic of the bar mounted that would also make me happy. I just wanna know what Im dealing with before I get started - things like mount points and which bushes to put where, etc etc.
