Best bang for your buck handling mods

Ok another help the noobie thread.

Recently Ive become fed up with the cornering prowess of my Lancer. Since I do quite a bit of driving in 80+ zones Ive noticed that taking corners at 80 can get pretty scary and feels as if the whole car is gonna flip or go screaming into the barrier.

What would you guys recommend I do to improve the handling? Ive had a look at RPW but Im on a budget of $1,000 or less so I wanna know what from your joint experiences can give the best improvements my dollars.

As far as I know coilovers are illegal here in SA without eng cert and are required to be locked at a certain height so I dont really wanna go down that route.

Thanks in advance guys! :)

struts and kingsprings is a fairly good area to look into, most of the cars that i know of on here are running on superlow kingsprings with struts or some type of shocks, dont ask me for brand names, still learning

Sway bars would probably be on par with coilovers on handling improvement (around $350 or so?)

Front strut brace does wonders for a front wheel drive car, USA ebay has a front and rear strut brace for about $120AUD,

Both sways and strut braces are legal.

$350 vs $1,000 ha ha looks like sway bars it is.

Since Im mechanically retarded will it cost me another 300 to get them fitted or is it something that should be relatively cheap to get done?

ADJUSTABLE Rear sway bar. Full stop.

x2

and even if you are mechanically retarded its still easy enuf, all u need is sockets, some grease to lube bushes and a jack and jack stands thats eeet.

thanks lachy, knew i made that thread fur a reason

also, going on coilovers being illegal in SA, well they are illegal in all states, not just SA, but never stopped some of us
also an awsome free mod to improve handing on 80km corners is.... slow down (OMGnoWAIthatMIGHTwork!!!)

i recomend front and rear strutbraces (ebay pack both for $110) and the adjustable rear swaybar set on stiffest if you dont have lowered springs or coils... that will make it alot tighter
also a wheel alignment might fix ur problems

Geez, if you have a $1k to spend, you can get lowered springs=$270, rear sway=$350, front and rear strut=$250 and possibly an uprated front sway to boot!

Nice way to spend a grand...

im in the same boat dude, but im sure if you read instructions that come with things it shouldnt be too hard, or get a mate, or someone from the forum to help you install things ;)

Ive seen the thread but I was looking for the best performance vs price trade off which isnt really what the parts thread is about.

Thanks for the advice though guys. Sounds good.

check ebay, theres a lot of whiteline handling parts on there, they are genuine items too not knockoffs

Best bang for buck is lowered springs... the geometry of your ride changes markedly, and lowers the COG. For $270, they might not be the most sophisticated (put that in there to appease the coilover gang), but for sheer value; they make your car look better, and are the start of your handling regime!

omg res got beat to linking a thread.

Hey guys bumping this thread coz I finally have funds to blow.

Im looking at a few items and I wanna get peoples opinions on price and the item itself:

Whiteline sway bar $269 (link)
Front and rear strut braces ~$125.20 ($29.80 item + $95.40 shipping) (link)
Slotted rotors - direct replacements for stocky front rotors $162.80 (link)

What do you guys reckon? Yay/nay?

Thanks in advance!

rear adjustable swaybar. first, most important handling mod eva

that price is for bar only, u will need a mount kit for another $110ish

whats wrong about fitting nice firm springs and high quality shocks, the rear swaybar is useless if you don,t have good firm suspension to start with, i am hoping to obtain a set of rears for my coupe from RES [ hello Res are you still there mate ] please reply. also to go with suspension you also need good tyres that can handle hard turns etc.
