1.5 Performance Upgrade

power isnt everything newbie.... [edit] sorry realised matty had already typed all thsi out

u will defintily need brake upgrades and suspension upgrades.... seriously
your 1.5l will never be able to straight-line it with the best of them (ever)...

so handling and braking is a must so u:
A) dont have to slow down loosing speed thru corners as much
B) keep what power u have on the ground
C) can lay down power thru corners to get ahead or keep up

i would greatly recomend a lightweight underdrive pully (if they still sell them) as your 1st mod for power, gives great low and midrange torque and even better makes the car more fuel efficient even when its gettign a flogging, got 600kms out of my tank this week and that was with an outright flogging on the cruise... well worth it, will keep money in ur pocket for other mods
this will also allow u to use air-con more without it sapping as much power from the engine (genious? i think so)
(cost ~$60 posted for the pully, + $40 for new belts, then diy fit it easy)

extractors are a must have for 1.5l's they free up soo much top end power

upgraded throttle body and CAI, worth while for that extra 3kws, but also give great low end torque which is great, they work well in combo with the extractors for a much better flowing engine that gives steady power

but really you will also be wanting to look at braking and handling to make it fun to drive (even without large power figures)
u will want:
GSR front brake upgrade 256mm -(~$370... ask henry).. these will make braking more reliable and have more bite, well worth it (+100 to hard-driving confidence)
adjustable rear swaybar -($300ish) ... this will keep the rear of the car much flatter, adjustable stiffness, best handling mod for cost, a must have for twisty roads (makes more confortable in corners also i found)
coilovers or good spring+shock combo: ($900-1000), they may cost alot but they are well worth having, not only will ur car look cooler it will be able to go into corners harder and faster, handle better, and will keep power on the ground
strutbraces (front and rear) i think i have covered this a billion times... get a good front strutbrace (eg: ULTRA brand) for rear tho if u have a rear sway bar, just get a cheap strutbarce (unless u have the $$) because the rear strutbrace and rear swaybar combo makes for a stiff as fk rear even if its a cheap brace

that is all...
