Wiring undercar LED

I am looking at chucking some under car LED strips in, but need a little advice on how to get the wires from inside to outside.

I can get the wires under the side skirting easy enough, no probs there, but is there any way to get the wires outside to the light strips without drilling through the chassis?

And if I do need to drill, is there any precautions that I need to make in terms of water proofing etc? I plan on having the wire joins hidden behind the panelling over the seatbelt retractor, so the connection should be well out the way of splashes etc, but i dont want any moisture creeping up into the carpet.

Cheers,
Alex

There should be about a million grommit ( not sure if that's correct) under there just put a small slice in it and feed the wires through the hole into the car

those being the plastic plug thingos? Hopefully it wont be too hard to navigate the wires up through the hollow space, through the hole to under the skirting. I will give it a go over the weekend, cheers.

The answer to that is for a learning curve. I drive a standard ES, in no way do I think that putting LEDs under my car is going to make it look "fully sick", but I just want to tinker and play with a few things that I cant really stuff up on. Maybe after I have practised my girlfriend will let me tinker with her VRX.

#1 ur silly, leds and neons are stupid and u will get over them so quickly
#2 dont do it. seriously

#3 dont drill into the chassy for neons/leds
#4 just dont even bother, learn on something else thats actually useful

#5 there are 1 or 2 rubber grommets under ur dash, feed wires thru that, then no need to drill into the chassy
#6 u can spend money on alot better things than neons

#7 for gods sake make sure ur connections are soldered well and shrink wrapped with the correct size wrap, then tape the ends of the wrap just incase its not tight enuf
#8 you could well start a fire in ur car, 1 person on here has and someone on MLGA had their car fully burnt out because of it

#9 save ur money and buy something more useful like : strutbrace, swaybar, anti lift kit, hids, tail lights, intake, exhaust, extractors, muffler etc etc...
#10 just dont do it...

i think everyone else will agree who has done them, a week after doing them, u get sick of them and wish u spent the money on other things

Money is part of the reason that I am doing it... The LED bars cost about $20 whereas the above would cost a bit more, out of reach for a student and single dad of 2 (yes my gf let me play with other things too when I was younger).

I will take your advice though, and think it through :) Although I am using those screw terminals for the connections, and then taping over them, so there shouldnt be too much of an issues (especially fused at 10A and running on 12V).

if ur buying $20 leds then they are too cheap, they wont last and or they wont be bright enuf for an under car kit, trust me i have made the mistake b4 aswell, rethink what led strips u buy
ur better off with somethign a bit more expencive if ur going to go thru with it u might aswell do it right the 1st time

IMO, save ur $$ till u have enuf for a more substancial mod that will satasfy u for longer than a week and that u will actually use more than twice

a set of 2 (front and rear) strutbraces from the US costs about $110 landed, and that will give u much more enjoyment long term fanging roudn the streets and actually add something usefull and cool to the car that is legal

actually, if you want to play around with LEDs, do something usuful with them.

i want to, one day, wire in some decent LED strips and a switch into the engine bay as work lights, so that if needed i can flick them on and light up the engine bay to reattach a cooler pipe or something to that effect.

you could do the same, or in the boot.

I only really bought the LEDs because I wanted some to create a moonlight for my fish tank, and I have leftovers so I just want to do something with them, the car seemed like the best idea. I could create a new show "Pimp My Bed" or "Pimp My Study Desk" but I dont think the idea would get far for some reason.

if u want LED's get them man, dont listen to everyone else, but i do recommend starting with something simple like neons at the footwell, just tap into the cig. lighter wires, there u will get the earth and acc. wires u need and run a switch of either wire to wherever u want, much better to beginwith, then once your happy with that, have a dig under your car. :)

I already have them in the footwells, and in the door pockets shining upwards. I had a spare ACC cable from my head unit wiring loom, saved me jumping off the ciggy cable like I did in my last car (a dodgy kia mentor).

ah yeah thats alright youll find that was your amp signal wire, but same *poo*. then id just do the undercar lights aye, jack her up and find the neatest way into the car. even if its to the battery and in through the firewall for yoour switch? simple.

BP Connectors? (like in domestic house wiring)

I take it you are using strip lights off eBay which have thin wires??

Seriously buy a soldering iron and learn how to use it. BP connectors are ghetto, atleast use crimps, but ideally soldering is best. Just then use a self-amalgamating tape or glue lined heat shrink to weather-proof the connection.

stop giving the guy sh1t about putting leds under or in his car. who gives a flying f4ck!? its his car let him do his own stuff jeez!

mate, i put red undercar leds inside n outside my old lancer. i liked em, dont listen to haters. they r very easy to wire up n do. just take your time n do it properly n make sure you dont miss out any steps, cause that will cause you problems.

i did my undercars mainly for the whole fact to proove to people i could do it. and i just kept doing more n more to proove a point :) after a while i did get over them all though, but it was always a laugh to turn em on when people asked me to :) i think i ended up with like 26+ LED things in/out of my car. its all good fun :)

Yeah, I think thats part of it for me too. The humour value in putting LEDs on the most basic, stock lancer out there. Plus I want to prove to myself that I can do it, dont really give a f$ck whether other people like them or not, and I know in all reality they will prob look pretty *poo*, but meh.

i have them, i have had them on for years, still don't think there stupid, but i rarely use them..like never
