SyKRyD said:get a full engine management system that can tune your ignition and fuel. anything else and you're just wasting your time.
tryg said:CJ owners are lucky in that we have had some development done by RPW, in the West. They have stage 1 tunes made up for our model. These were developed on a dyno. You just insert them using an specialised OBDII cable, called a TACTRIX 2.0 Open ECU cable.
Your earlier cars will have much more available.
The ECU Flash costs about $70, the cable is $220 (but free if you know someone with it!)

That's a very bold statement. Even stock CJs can get quite a big performance boost from a minor play around with the air-fuel ratio (they run quite rich from factory, ignition and MIVEC (something which obviously isn't there in a CE to play with) maps and by lifting the rev limiter a bit.
However CJs can have their stock ECU very easily reflashed and to do so on a CJ costs $70 if you can get your hands on an OpenPort2.0 cable as Tryg alluded, as opposed though to $1500-2000 for a standalone and custom dynatune for a CE. So really it's more the fact that for the cost you wouldn't bother to do it on a un-worked CE.
