swap the 4g15 for a 6a12

hi guys

my 4g15 engine with 270000ks on it decided to blow the head gasket today :/ so i was thinking would it be easy and p plate legal to swap in a 6a12 mivec engine. I can get a hold of the manual halfcut for approx 1500, with the engine swap done by myself, how much am i looking at in parts that need to be changed eg engine mounts etc if they need to be done.

Cheers,
Mat

fairly strait forward
i think there are alot of thread up on 6a12's and other possible swaps, so have a search around
but i think a 1.5 -> 2.0l may require engineering cert which will cost a little (i could be wrong tho)

partly related: i thought engine swaps for p platers were only allowed if the engine was offered for that chassis code/year, or is that for the engineering cert im thinking of?

correct. U will have to put a 1.8 or another 1.5 in it if u want to drive it while on p plates. All other engines should require a mod plate.

Is this different in different states

If you're in nsw and you have a coupe or sedan you can go a 4g93 (1.8) legally without requiring engineering and legal for p platers. No other engine swap issue allowed for p platers. If its a mirage you can only go to another 4g15 legally and with no engineering.

In regards to costs, search around. There's a diy on this swap on here but you'll have to find the costs yourself by ringing a few shops.

I know this may sound stupid, but im on my last year of my green plates, with about 8 months to go, i have read on the RTA site that you dont need an engineering cert if its less than 15% increase of displacement so the 2L would be allowed as its less than 115% of the1.8 litre. However the question is, if i did the swap and everything myself, what is the likely hood of getting caught? I dont drive like an idiot or anything,i just need a decent engine that is capable of pulling the car full of people up a hill, which the 1.5 lacked and i imagine the 1.8 being the same.

just do it :) i doubt a cop is going to pop the bonnet on a lancer lol & if he did just be like iuno thats how i bought the car its stock? funny story when i got deffected in my old lancer he popped the bonnet & was like.......where's the turbo? ermmm it dosent have one officer? so you mean to tell me all this show & theres no turbo.... LOL's were had

The 2lt would be fine they look like the 1.8

Think he means the 2L V6.... not the 2L 4g94

Isn't there something in the restrictions about power increases before requiring engineering? Because you're basically jumping from 69kw at the fly to 150. Almost twice the power of the 1.8 engine.
