Some queries

1 - What is the glue/adhesive black *poo* that holds down the carpet and the plastic sheet over the interior door frame, it's sticky az and I need to find some, doesn't have to be brand specific - alternatives also good

2 - in the 1DIN holder thing under the CD player I'm making a switch panel to sit on the exterior of the compartment. How would I be able to make it easily removable but not too easy that flicking a switch or a hard bump can take it off? I've thought of magnets but they would take up too much space for the switch to be mounted from the posterior.

3 - I'm planning on having an illuminated recessed glass description pane underneath each switch. I plan on having it so that only when I turn my lights (parkers+) on they'll turn on (easy to do - tap into cig lighter source) but the issue comes when I plan on having red as the stationary light that appears when off and when I flip the switch I want the red light to turn off and the other light to turn on. How would I do this?

4 - If I have UV LED bulbs which operate between 3.4 and 3.6V, how would I be able to decrease the amount of voltage going to them so they don't burn out in 5 seconds (found out the hard way)? --to be used with the illuminated toggle switch description panel--

5 - What is the name of the mechanism on the door which detects the pressure from the door when closing and opening to turn the interior light on when on 'door' setting, I plan on connecting a light looking down in the centre console wired to the interior light to detect when the centre console lid is either closed or open (and to turn on only when the parkers+ are turned on, that's easy)

6 - What colour wires are the indicator lights OR If I wire my central locking control unit to the hazard lights will they operate when I hit lock/unlock on the blinkers or the find car button?

There will probably be more added later as I plan on fixing alot of the small things within my car as I have like a week off from INTENSE Uni as I've finished all my assignments XD

Opinion:
I plan on having my car colour themed.

I already have black foglight shrouds (projector foglights with CCFL), Black headlights (reflector housing no longer used as I have projectors retrofitted) and am waiting on 16x8 black deep dish +25 offset rims

All removable parts (rear MR pods, MR sideskirts and possibly topstage front lip, smoked indicators, black door frame and metal above it between gutter and windows, black M3 styled power mirrors, black rear facing surface of bootlid with garnishes and no spoiler). Parts to be painted in a colour similar to this will be front bar (upwards of front lip), rear bar (underneath bootlid forward to the front meeting the rear pods near the wheel arches) doors, front and rear quarter panels and the lower part of the bonnet (where up until where the ridges begin). The rest of the car being the roof, upward facing surface of bootlid and bonnet will be white.

This would mean that the parts lowest to the ground will be black and slick with smoked indicators and black mirrors/bootlid. It's very conceptual and you have to have a good imagination on what it would look like but I believe that it could work. I want to put a photoshop together of it to show what it would actually look like but I'm not a master.

Thanks for reading my essay - If I had been able to type these 663 words as fast for my assignments which actually meant something I would be a lot smarter of a man. Cheers for any help you guys provide. Peace.

Dude, i just read all that, and wished that my 700 words on listening as part of communication in the workplace would have come that easy.

To much for me to think off now. ill post some stuff tomz if noone has done by then.

The sticky stuff is called sikaflex. Comes in a tube it's like a silicone.

With the cover thing you could possibly just fab it so that it fits real snug in the hole, or you could make it c shaped as in the flat bit where the switches mount, then two pieces that are attached that fit snugly and exert pressure on either side of the hole. (hope you understand this)

With the colour changing lights the only thing I can think of is to wire a relay in somewhere. Joshy is the guy to ask about that shiz.

Plus two tone cars look mad. Look up tjoz's cj lancer if you want to get an idea of two tone. His is also white and black.

5. Look in my key ring light illumination DIY, where I spliced into a wire in the drivers A pillar. When the door opens it closes a circuit, giving power to that wire. I think that's what you mean. That's a wire to get power from when the door is open anyway.

And where's pics of your projector retrofit and fog lights?! I wanna see!!

Trondy, you've got my expectations high ;).

Cheers for your response Jeff, I'm a bit confused on the description for the holding of the switch panel? I've made it out of 3mm black perspex, and it fits really snugly in it when it's been pulled out. I think it might actually be able to hold itself in there when I screw it back in as I have reason to believe it overlaps on the edges (apart from the top) and if it moves I could always just put something on the inside of the forward facing panel, where it overlaps to apply just that little bit more pressure, something like felt as to not scratch the surface...

Owell, ive procrastinated this far, whats another 5 mins.

1. Been covered.
2. No idea, well a few but they are hard to describe, main one being, buy one of those 1DIN pocket tray things that slide out, that way you just fit it instead of your compartment, and you can attach the switches too the front of the tray, and you can slide the tray out to accesss the wiring.
3. You will need SPDT switches. (Single pole dual throw) and so you you have your +12V going into the centre pin (common) then have your OFF red LED on the off side of the switch going to an earth. then on the one side, you run that to whatever you want to power, along with your blue LED or whatever for on.

You can do it other ways if you want. but thats proably how id do it.
4. You can either get a voltage regulator transistor thing and google a simple voltage regulator circuit (they are usually only 2 or 3 components) to create a pseudo-power supply of 3.5V or watever for all your 3.5V LEDs and such. or you can just add a few resistors into the circuit. V=IR is your friend.
5. Its called the door ajar switch, you can tap into it like Jazza said, or you can goto Jaycar and get a a small Momentary button switch that is normally closed, so when you open the centre console, it closes the circuit and powers whatever you want.
6. I cant really think on this one. What do you want to do?

Yo jazz, I'm referring to the mechanical component (the thing on the door sill which is depressed to cut the circuit etc.) I'd like it to be installed on my centre console lid and whenever I open it at night time (with parkers or door illumination on) the LED light looking back into the centre console will illuminate allowing me to find stuff :p. That's what I meant - as for the key ring illumination side of things: ;) bought and on it's way baby!

Pics soon to come when I get my black deep dish 16x8 +25 offset rims ;), just trying to make the foglights fit in the housing without it looking out to the side otherwise it loses practicality. For that problem I'm thinking of buying a heat gun (going to be used in my DIY Guard rolling thread I make when I get my rims/tyres fitted :)) and just pushing the foglight through the foglight cover as to maintain the snug and tight fit. Alternatively manufacturing my own brackets to fit them in...

Trondy, I have central locking but when I lock/Unlock my car, the two blinkers don't flash because they haven't been wired up to do that yet. I want to do it because it's just a pet peeve of not being able to see my car do it/not having the option to find my car with the find car/blink button and I have the option on my remote so it's just been aching to be wired up :p

Have alook behind your hazard light switch, for the wiring, and maybe have a play with what turns them on etc. if you unplug your hazard switch none of the indicators will work, id have a look to see how they are powered, and run your blinker flash into there somewhere.

I can have a look to see if there's a wiring diagram for the indicators later in my gregory's manual.

And as tron said, go to jaycar and find one of those switches that have a spring and pop up when you open the console, closing the circuit to give power to the light. Same sorta switch that the doors use. And why do you just want it to work when the headlights are on? I reckon you'd still wanna reach in there when you first get in the car and you haven't turned the headlights on yet. I'd maybe just wire the switch to constant 12V. But I don't like doing that cuz if the switch breaks it could create a parasitic draw.

And I'm looking forward to these pics :D

Using a voltage Regulator will not work, it will not limit current and the led will fail. Use a 470 ohm resistor for each LED on a 12V circuit.

Yep went to jaycar on my spending spree, also picked up resistors for the LED bulbs. I think I might just wire them up to the interior lights :)

Something like so? Switch pannel that just sits there tight. also has LEDs above indicate when they are on (top layer of plastic is clear with a thin layer of paint over the to so the light still shines through).

Also you can get switches that are controlled by magnets used in electronic securtiy. Then you can hide the main wiring part up inside the console and just have a magnet on the lid of the consle that disengages the switch so they will turn on.

And as said above just use resistors for the LEDs.

Magnet switches are called Reed switchs, incase you have trouble finding them. They sell them at Jaycar.
