Shock Absorbers

So I had my Lancer tested today and the left side both front and rear shocks are shot... Yay... So all four are needed to be replaced... Anyone skilled in this area who can do it cheaply ??? I am really not mechanically talented and the quote I got for it was $1100...

550 for entry level coilovers 100x better than shocks. I trialled them on my car and haven't looked back.

What brand ??? I think because of my money situation it's gonna have to wait till tax time... but yeah $1100 fitted seemed a bit excessive to me... Maybe I'm wrong...

Their GAB that price is a rip. 350avrg inc wheel alignment should be the install fee and I wouldn't pay more fthan 500 for a set of shock absorbers. Any more then that and you may aswell get coilovers.

If you are going to just replace shocks with regular OEM-style gas struts, then you can pick up a quality set for about $400-$500. There would be plenty of people around who could help you install... I am sure there is someone in Brisbane who might..if not, I am in Toowoomba on weekends, happy to assist.

You would, however, need to outlay for a wheel-alignment after fitment of new shocks. Cost; $50-$70.

lol for 1100 bucks you could nearly get BC red coilovers!

SPOT ON!
do what this kid said, BC reds will make a world of difference

you will be lookin at about 600-800 for new shocks plus 35 for a spring compressor, better off just investing in coils and install em yourself!!
auslancer will help you out on installs ;)

Wow, I couldn't spend that much on the CJ for new shocks.. what kind cost that much, Ohlins adjustables!?

Seriously, if you want OEM quality, you can get a set of KYB for $400. Wont need spring compressors if others help you install..just find someone with a set you can borrow (there is plenty to go around, surely).

If you're looking for performance though, spend extra and get coilovers...there are many on here who swear by them.

$400 KYBs for front and rear?

I got quoted $390 for just fronts buy Repco today (I was just wondering, I assumed they would be overpriced and wanted a laugh)

eBay... as usual, provides...

My mechanic is over in America at the moment... I'm waiting to see what he can do for me otherwise I guess I might have to try and get my hands dirty :p

it really isnt that hard
you would be better trying it yourself so u learn, buy parts+DIY = save cost of labour which is a large chunk
otherwise eveytime you have problems you will have to pay a mechanic to fix/look at it, whereas if u learn u can just fix it yourself

i am +1 for GAB coils $550 cant beat that price for entry level coils, and i recon the dampners would last twice the time kingsprings would before sagging and ur damps are ruined

im sure res and i could help out with install

if you just want a criuse sort of ride where its still soft go with new springs and shocks
if you want to to run on rails go with a set of BC V1 coilovers (best entry level). can come in my car if you want to feel how they go

Hmm, interesting at least I have a few options :) I don't know what the condition of the bump stops and CV's are as well... They could need doing for all I know... I need a better job... :p
