Farout, i haven't been on here in over 5 months, not much has changed tho sadly
I finally got all my parts i ordered from rpw a few weeks ago. They forgot to send my flywheel tho so that will arrive in the mail in the next week.
Once the flywheel comes, I can drop it off at the machine shop to be balanced with the pistons, rods, crank and pressure plate.
My crank is almost finished being knife edged and polished, and so is my block which is being bored and having the whole works done to that, which is very exciting news!!
Rlly the last thing I've gotta do now is send off my cam to Vic to be reground to the custom spec I want and order the injectors in and then it'll just be a case of waiting for the final stuff to arrive so I can FINALLY get on to actually building the engine.
I kid u not when I say I've thought abt this car every single day since it went kaput late November last yr. Im lucky I have all my other cars but farout they just won't, and don't, compare to my lancer. Even my mx5 just doesn't feel special when I compare it to this even tho its just abt to have a widebody fitted lol.
In the meantime tho while I have some spare time, ill finish off getting the 2 rear rims painted white (the front 2 i finished last yr), and ill finish the headlight intake which just needs the pipe cut back nice n flush so cops can't have a poo over it. And then once the car is running ill get a high-flown cat fabbed up before I send it over to the dyno for a run in tune.
I might also do some painting on the bumpers so it won't just be a fast *poo* box, itll be a sexy *poo*box too.
Anyway, im extremely excited for the cam, which should lope like crazy, super excited for all the lightweight internals incl the flywheel, rods, pistons and crank. This thing should rev bloody fast, and with the cam it should help make the 4g94 a high rpm NA monster. Coupled with the 4.63 final drive, I just can't wait to feel and hear how quick this thing goes thru the gears. This should be one hell of a snappy motor. I just wish that people wouldve done this to their cars so I can actually see what sort of power and acceleration I'd be getting. I mean I lt feels damn cool to think that what im doing to this car is almost like a one off thing, feels like its the only one in the world with my setup. People have done similar but from all my research it feels like I've just gone 3 steps further than most with pure NA build
Ill list the entire mod list for this car 1 more time incase its lost within my other 6 pages hehe:
Bolt ons
- 70mm tb
- Custom short runner intake manifold w/ velocity stacks
- Diy cold air headlight intake w/ 3 inch piping
- Roughly 2 inch headers, bought used
- 2 inch exhaust w/ stock cat. Will get a higflow cat fabricated before the car gets tuned
- Pink 575cc injectors, a bit overkill for now but will run flex fuel in the distant future
- Evo 4/5/6 aluminium radiator (2.8x larger than stock!)
- Stock ecu for now, will go haltech next yr to run flex fuel
- I will change to a 2.5 inch exhaust/ high flow cat once im off my p's (I dont wanna attract anymore attention than it already gets)
Head (sohc)
- Decked 35 thou
- 3 angle valve job on both the intake and exhaust valves
- Larger intake valves, either 1 or 2mm bigger
- Intake ports have been insanely ported to match the intake manifolds ports, and then also polished
- Exhaust ports have been mildly ported and polished
- Custom 284/284 billet cam with 10mm lift
- Stiffer valve springs
- Adjustable cam gear
Block (4g94)
- 12.5 cr 1mm oversized forged cp super-light-weight racing pistons w/ Hastings rings
- Forged steel conrods
- Knife edged and lightened crank
- Block bored out to 2.1L
- Billet oil pump gears
- Arp main studs
- Arp conrod bolts
- Crank, rods, pistons, flywheel and pressure plate balanced
- Stock crank pulley to absorb some extra vibrations (superdampers dont exist for these engines sadly)
- Total static compression should be around the 13:1 ratio. Im hoping it can be tuned well enoigh to not ping or knock being on 98 but we'll have to see
Gearbox
- 4.4kg chromoly flywheel
- HD Exedy performance clutch and pressure plate
- 4.63 final drive (stock is 3.7)
Anything else important
- Will probably go with some re003's for a sticky but inexpensive set of tires. These will go on another set of rims for the track. Currently on 15 inch rims with some amazing Dunlop wet weather/ street tires for daily driving
- Slotted DBA front rotors with street pads but will go for some 2 piston calipers and 255mm 4 stud rotors in the future
- Car has been severely lightened by around 120kg, with it currently weighing in at 840kg, will eventually get it down to 799 with some sneaky cutting and srsly lightweight 5kg each seats (stock seats are 15kg)
- Stock suspension for now, will get lowering springs and good shocks as I dont wanna spend too much more on this car and coilovers r hella expensive
- Once the car is tuned and safely running, I will get the engine engineered, just like I did when making it a 2 seater, so cops can't defect me
Power goals
- Hoping this car can make between 180-200whp and atleast 210nm with this setup. I've seen a few dohc 4g94s make this sort of power but they've had mostly stock heads with forged pistons and rods but are still 2.0L's compared with my 2.1L
- I'm also hoping to get it to rev between 9-10k rpm which is mostly unheard of for sohc 4g94s unless you're in Puerto Rico but it is theoretically possible to make power towards those rpms with my setup
- This engine coupled with the super short fd ratio should allow it to get to 100 in the very low 5s or high 4s considering the cars weight. For example, the 2zz lotus elise weighs abt 20kgs more than my car and maybe about 180-190hp to the crank and goes to 100 in the mid to high 4s. My car should make atleast 200hp to the crank and will make a crap tonne more torque, especially down low thanks to its larger displacement, to help aid in acceleration, which the 1.8 2zz struggles with below vvtli
Soon enough ill have this thing back on the road chopping ss's, golfs and Honda's within low to medium speed accleration
Ill post again once I finish getting my parts and start building the engine and gearbox
