Removing Stock CD/Radio

Heya,

I'm in the process of removing the stock CD/Radio unit from my 2001 Lancer CE but I'm having some slight issues. I managed to get the whole panel thing off and remove the coloured cable plug but there's another black plug which looks like a power cable and I'm unsure of how to disconnect it. It starts off thin from the unit then goes into this black tubular looking thing which at the other end is a silver piece which looks like its inserted into the black tube, it then goes to thin black wire again and goes up under the dash. I'm assuming it's this black tube thing where the disconnecting happens but it doesn't wanna budge easily and I didn't wanna pull too hard incase I'm wrong and break something.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Hey mate sounds like the Ariel cable it should just pull out

it the antenna for the radio, it might need some persuasion, but it shouldnt break.

So should it come out of the unit itself or out of the black tubey thing? There doesn't seem to be an actual connection on the unit, the wire just goes straight into the metal casing.

If it's the ariel, will a new stereo have the connection to plug back into it's place or will I have to do some custom wiring?

(First time doing any of this so bare with me :) )

Thanks

Comes outta the tube, and yes the new stereo should have another tube like it or a plug straight into the unit.

It comes out of the head unit, just pull the metal thingy and it should come out. They are often pushed in hard so don't be shy.

some times the areial ahs a join in it about 100mm down the cable instead of at the unit

this

i think i've only seen the join elsewhere on some wierd extensions people add on.
also since your putting in a new one have you bought a wiring harness to adapt to the new hu?

Managed to pull the arial out, just had to wiggle it with some pliers.

What's a "wiring harness"?

I haven't bought the new unit yet. I was gonna go to jb-hi tomorrow and pick one up. Would it come with everything I need?

I had originally thought that the old coloured connector would just plug straight into the new head unit but from what you've said it looks like I'll probably have to re-wire the coloured wires into a new connector specific to the new unit.

Where can I get a wiring diagram for my car? Is there somewhere online that has them for different makes/models?

Stop! You don't have to rewire it! Go down to SCA/Autobahn/Auto1 and get a Mitsubishi ISO adapter, then pick up your respected HU adapter for the ISO adapter. No re-wiring needed, and it means you can plug your old HU straight back in when you sell it.

Get the late model one, should be one plug, though I'm a CH owner not a CE. CE owners get in here!
