Radical_Ralliart’s Project

Hi everyone, i’ve posted a few threads already so i thought i’d compile all my questions within this thread.

I own a 2005 CH Lancer, with the mighty 2.4L 4g69 that pumps out a pitiful 115kw, it’s probably lost some of that power over the years but i’d like to make it into something really fun.

I’ve learned alot about different skills with working on cars over the past year, and i’d really like to get started with this project. My primary goal is to make this sad nugget into a fun to drive, good looking car.

I’ll probably ask alot of questions because i’m still pretty new to working on cars, i understand certain things about engine tuning and suspension geometry but i always get stuck somewhere. Hope you guys will follow the build!

This is what it currently looks like, i’ve already done a number of things to it, i swapped the crap looking pre-facelift bumper for a facelifted one with the oem front lip and added vrx headlights.

There some things that came with the car like the old bc racing coilovers and a talon bodykit and spoiler. I’d already replaced the talon skirts for oem skirts and swapped out the bc racing coilovers for a set of KYB shocks for a vrx lancer and paired them with tein lowered springs

After alot of thinking i got a custom cat-back exhaust made for me. Ended up going with a 2.25” low grade stainless steel piping with a middle resonator and a vortex straight-through oval muffler with a 4.5” tip. It sounds deep and not raspy below 4000rpm but at high rpms it does scream pretty loud.

One annoying thing is theres some metal that vibrates at high rpm, no idea what it could be

Here’s some photos of the kyb/tein suspension, i pretty quickly figured out how it went together, and the car feels really good to drive since i put them in

How are the Excel-Gs? There's both the SR Specials and the Lowfer sports as factory upgrades for this platform but they're light blue/yellow respectively and way more expensive.

I've been running BC golds for about a year now on their softest settings and kinda hate the ride, how are you finding the KYB/tein combo to drive on? ride quality/height comparison?

I highly recommend the combo, the kyb shocks are specified for the VRX lancer trim. They handle a *poo* load better than standard es shocks its crazy. The tein springs are also a progressive spring rate so that helps alot with hard cornering.

The ride quality is quite good, i can still feel bigger bumps and divots on the road but not anywhere near as much as when i was on bc racing BR coilovers.

Height wise, its still quite good i’d say i sit about the same height as before. Bear in mind the tein springs sit i think 0.5” lower on the front than the VRX springs

Been a while since i updated my progress but i recently had alot of things done i bought a set of evo 8 enkei wheels, did a 5 lug hub swap front and rear, and had the rear guards rolled to fit the wheels.

I have to say it came out looking really good.

So at the moment the tyres sizes are

235/45/17 in the rear

225/45/17 in the front

I bought the wheels like that, but i still scrub a little on the rear when i have someone in the back, so i’m going to get 215/45/17 or 225/40/17 tyres front and rear when i can.

Also, side note for anyone looking to fit wheels with the same specs as evo wheels 17”x8” +35mm offset

You will NEED to have 5mm spacers in the rears so the wheels will clear the trailing arm suspension, even with spacers it still sits pretty close to it, but i haven’t had any issues with it so far.

little update on the lancer project, i’ve fitted RPW’s 41mm primary 4-1 extractors with the custom midpipe and 200 cell cat. (Pretty fkn loud, i may end up replacing the cat with a 400 cell unit)

Fitted a very cheap ebay short shifter kit, with metal base bushings.

And recently had a vrx rear bumper resprayed in ‘Innsbruck white’ to match the rest of the car, little annoyed about the muffler tip though its touching the underside of the bumper and started to crack the paint there :/

Just took a look and holy *poo*, that redline sound with the new setup sounds criminally good.
I honestly love how it sounds in the car, especially how it pops on every shift.

The single 200 cell cat definitely increased the volume (and fuel smell) by alot, considering maybe getting a 400 cell cat made just tone it down a bit more

I would also like to note i did have my factory ecu reflashed by Alvin at off the clock motorsports, all he did was change the soft rev limiter to a hard cut limiter, disabled the secondary o2 sensor, i believe he removed the 180km/h speed cap, and overall cleaned up the fuel map to run a little leaner as the factory map is very rich. Also has a little better throttle response, likely adjusted something with the electric throttle body.

It wasn’t noticeable at first but the new fuel map, paired with a full exhaust should give a nice increase to overall torque and hp across the whole rev range. I really want to get some dyno numbers to show you guys.

Also if anyone’s interested in the difference between the stock cat material compared to the high flow cat, heres two photos of the factory exhaust manifold cat and the main cat

Just got some new tyres on my evo 7 wheels today, going down from a 235/45/17 toyo track tyre (absolutely massive) to 215/45/17 economy tyres. These will be the daily wheels for now, got the old tyres removed from the Evo 8 wheels so i can either repaint/powdercoat them.

I actually really like the look of the evo 7 wheels, definitely alot better than expected

G'Day R_R, whilst I have the 4G94 2Ltr CH I'm torn at the cost of those 'Hurricane' extractors. In fact RPW advise that they are unavailable? But the cost..... almost wish I had the more desirable 4G96 2.4Ltr. Bugger....... FMI what cost of your extractors? Thks

My extractors, custom midpipe, and 200 cell high flow cat all came up to $1100
