Painting Rims: What paint?

Hey guys...

Going to paint my VY SS rims black most likely. First of all im wondering what type of paint to use....enamel or acrylic?...or something else?

Also:

I'll probably do this without taking the tyres off the wheel, usually id just think to mask it but I've heard of great success covering the tyre in vaseline and then wiping it off easily. Anyone tried this?/Got an opinion on it.

Thanks guys

something solid, like chassis or brake caliper paint,

give them a sand, do a few coats, leaving each coat in the sun for awhile to dry

Never heard about the vasoline I usually just use a deck of cards slide them behind the rim pretty easy.

Read this in isolation and weird images come to mind

I would suggest doing it properly. That is, take the tyres off, clean, sand or sand blast then powdercoat. Powder coating is stronger and will last. Regular spray cans will chip and flake easier.

unless your like me and just keep a tin of flat black paint in the car for those times when you just want your rims to stand out

agreed and agreed
i skimmed over the thread and saw the vaso and some cards and was like "WTF!?!?"

but as for the other, im gettin mine done like this, tyres off, blasted down, then sprayed, just so i can get the entire rim done nice and good ;)

Hey man . Use some wet n dry sandpaper about the 2nd fines u can get and use white primer use 4 to 5 coats and use engine paint works great

VHF wheel paint, give several coats sanding when it gets rough. Then for the finish get a heavy wet coat trying to get the whole rom wet at once so you get it to dry without patches. That's what I did with mine and they look good enough.

sorry guys was a little busy the last few days so hadn't taken a look at this yet.

Don't really want to get them done properly, just want a home job. I bought the rims dirt cheap with the intention of spraying them(pretty much paid for the tyres + free wheels). It's coming out of a gun if thats any better than a spraycan.

I know that most people have advised against it but I've seen it with fairly decent results and hey im not fussy. I'm confused as to what actual type of paint would be a better solution though(enamel/acrylic/2k but ill die of cancer).....and does VHF come in a can or a tin matty? Does that even make a difference to the overall job lol.

Sorry if I sound like a bit of a lostcase, just trying to get my facts straight....

hmm, 1 tin ought to do it maybe I'm better off than firing up the compressor. Ill need primer too though wont I

well at supercheap primer is in a spray can aswell 3m brand so u kno its fair good product
cost maybe $15 for the primer can

but won't I need primer to match? This is where I'm getting lost. This wheel paint is what, enamel? acrylic? I've got plenty of acrylic primer but I'm gonna guess if i use that with enamel I'm not going to get very good results....doesn't acrylic shrink when it dries so eventually the enamel will start cracking? But if the paint were acrylic.....

doesnt mention on the can when i was reading it which types of paint it was for, i dont kno how much it matters, so someone else can confirm that
