New to project cars

Hey guys,

Newbie here. Very new to project cars and such, but I just bought 2002 GLi from a local dealer. Highish kms but I just love the look of it! (Love the looks of lancers in general). Do figured I'd start looking at things to do with it.
Its got 220k on the clock, so I'm looking at an engine rebuild. Its about to go over the pits for a full check up. But with full log book history I'm pretty happy with it.

Would love any input people feel like getting. Not too fussed on speed and such, more of a clean smooth ride.

Cheer

Welcome man!
We always recommend replacing the 1.5l 4g15, with the 1.8l 4g93. I would highly reccommend it if you're going to the trouble of a rebuild!
Other than that have a trawl through some ride threads and have a gander at what kind of things you'd like to do!

Sounds like a plan. But its already running a 1.8l? Ive taken a quick look through the first few threads in the ce forum and theres definitely skme interesting stuff

Oh gli 1.8? Mad score! Most gli are 1.5

Well definitely look into getting some MR / VRX interior parts. Theyre a cheap and fun addition to the interior and make life that little bit better

Might be a glxi? It was apparently a highend model. But i just took that as the dealer trying to talk it up. I'm just excited to get back in it tomorrow! It doesnt have as much get up and go as the commodore had, but it feels more responsive. If that makes any sense.

Oh yeah, absolute sense. Much more nimble too! Early on my favourite additions were front and rear strut braces, I got the generic eBay specials that were like $150 delivered. Definitely reccommend!

Nice! Yeah, I'm looking at an overhaul of the brakes/tyres/suspension. But I'm not sure what sort of funds I'm looking at for that. I've just spent 3.5k to get the car. Had a bit of a google around and can pick up some aesthetic stuff pretty cheap. Like I said, i'm just very new to the car scene like this.

So I've picked it up and driven it home (130km trip) and man it was a nice ride. Didn't struggle at all (we live in a very hilly area).

I've got some questions and stuff I want to ask about what I should make a priority for any work/what I need to watch out for for something that might blow?

Major service! Plugs, air filter, fuel filter, gearbox oil, coolant, brake fluid and coolant are all a good start. Rear brake adjustment and throttle body clean as well.

Easy! I've got it booked in for a service (Was just going to be minor) to kick things off, so I might bump that up to a major.

BTW Hugh, it's a VR-X (or at least got the body kit of one, I can't really tell?)

Ohhhhh it's a CG! 2 litre! Even better man
Is it? Oh man I'm so confused/worried now! All the paperwork says ce 1.8l :s I'm definitely going to need to chase this up.

And I just realised I posted the same picture twice. Will need to chuck up the proper one in the morning.

Frosty I didn't think the early cgs had 2.4 but could be wrong. Regardless it's a CG probably with a 4g94, unsure of the differences besides body kit that came with CG that make it a VRX but if you've managed to get a VRX well done man, that's the top model

Show us a picture of the whole car too, that'll sort out any confusion

The wreck I bought was an 07 Cs with a 69 so late model. That plate says it's a cg the top line of the plate where it says model.
