New MY14 Lancer Sport thoughts?

Hi there,
I'm new to this forum and am seeking advice on a brand new car purchase. Looking at the Lancer Sport MY14 edition (manual), on special for $19990 drive away which I thought was quite a decent deal given the little extras you get for that price.

Basically I'm not too fused, just looking for something sedan shaped, decent engine but more or less something to just get me from A to B for at the very least a few years. I've heard mixed reviews on the interior quality of the new lancers and while I won't really be having many passengers let alone kids or anything that are more susceptible to "play" with things, I'm hoping that the interior is still good enough to not just start falling apart with general wear and tear? Knowing me I'll be pretty gentle with it anyways if bought.

Just thought I'd gather some opinions here especially about the longevity of the interior, quality overall and if anyone's had any major unexpected issues with the CJ lancers in the past few years? :)

P.s. Not the smartest when it comes to car information, trying to do all the research I can online before I go for a test drive!

Welcome to the forum. I am not very informative with the CJ's so will leave that to someone else. Just wanted to say hi!

hey dude, welcome to the forum.
i have a mate with one of these sport cj's and its pretty good. more than enough power for normal driving, heaps of luxuries and his has leather seats. i've never heard of the interior 'falling apart' as cars have to pass heaps of testing these days so the quality is pretty good. you can always use seat covers etc if you wish to preserve it for longer.
if you have any other questions then feel free to ask!

Thanks :)
Haha yeah, I've been reading a lot of reviews on lots of true new models, I've found some bad ones but they do seem quite isolated! Dad's a vehicle body maker and told me he read sonewhere that someone commented on cheap plastic build inside the vehicle and it concerned him...but we're just going to stay optimistic until we can sit in a car and really get a feel for it :)

yeah go amd see one, test drive it and make your own opinion on it

Lol interior falling apart made me laugh. Interior is pretty good quality actually for such a cheap car. Most new cars are these days. I always find it funny when people make the comment about cheap plastics on the interior, to me that just sounds like they're trying to sound like they know what they're talking about. The only modern cars I've been in where you can notice the interiors are no good were in the early '00s Kias, the new Chinese cars and Ford Kas. Also a lot of auto commodores I've been in squeak a lot in and around the shifter because it's plastic on plastic and it drives you up the wall. We've had our CJ for 4 years now, can safely say it gets neglected more than it should, no garage so lives on the street in sunlight, don't get time to wash it as much as I should and it's daily driven. Never had an issue with it, interior is still perfect, and never missed a beat mechanically. The paint as in most Japanese cars are not as good as in euros, but that's the difference in buying a 20k car vs a 50k car. I actually think the interior in the CJ is better than in the mk4 VWs I had, which became very brittle and cracked tabs off when pulling the dash apart. Hope that helps a bit

Ive had my CJ for just over 2 yrs and build quality is great...they are still Japaneese made unlike a lot of the Korean,Indian stuff...some of the reviewers i think just dont like Mitsubishi's....If it had of been a new Commodore there wouldnt have been an issue lol.

haven't had it that long and I'm fairly happy with it, interior build quality feels pretty solid, cd player has played up but that had more to do with my suspension or lack thereof I'm guessing than the cd player.

for 20k new you won't get much better. keep in mind this is prob the last model year of this shape though.

The CJs are a great car but the model is a bit aged now in comparison to the competition but I would still say its decent especially with the attractive pricing that's being offered. I would suggest you push for lower then $20k drive away. Also get front mud flaps, floor mat, drivers weathershield included in the negotiation for final price before they slap the ming mole onto you who will try flog them at higher prices to you. I'd also say that in general alot of the plastics in the CJ lancer are of a much better quality than my VE Commodore which is just not as flexible and an absolute *top bloke* to pull apart...

I'm getting my Sports this monday (27th May) manual in white. so excited. Unlike your average buyer, I'm not even that into mechanical stuff but I went through the car entirely testing the ranges of seats, every button, looking under it, poking around the engine AND IT WAS PERFECT!

I went through CarSearch though and got it w/ darkest legal tint, optioned shift knob, mats & stainless scuff plates for the cool price of $19,450. SO pumped.

Nice going mate! As the CJ is ending it's lifespan there seems to be some really great deals out there on it!

Honestly after seeing their failure with the latest Mirage I am not holding my breathe for it being decent! I think what you will see in atleast the dearer models is the inclusion of alot more driver aids like blindspot detection, rear-ender prevention, lane deprture warning, etc. That seems to be all becoming main stream now and Mitsu will be behind the 8 ball if atleast the VRX doesn't get it!

Bit like the VF Commo, looks like ass on the outside compared to the VE but the interior is a significant improvement and alot more gadgets thrown in...

Yay!
Have been told mine will be ready not this weekend but the next...apparently there aren't many manuals other than white in the country yet or something..
Titanium coloured manual with window tinting and reverse sensors for 18995, cannot wait! :)

awesome, you'll enjoy it.

Just on the topic of extras I looked at a few VRX and now they have reverse camera and proximity sensors. Camera comes standard on all above base now I think.
