Howdy all
Saw this yesterday...
Looks like Mitsi are re-introducing the Mirage next year.
Zippy looking car, but a 1.2ltr 3 cylinder engine? Really?
I ASSUME its to keep Mitsubishis AVERAGE fuel consumption low, so we can continue to buy EVOs.
There are very specific rules in play, especially in the US, governing this.
Keen to hear your thoughts.....

Mitsi's super-seller rides again

Small and nippy, the Mitsubishi Mirage of the 70s was affordable, economical and popular. Its descendant is set up to emulate those highly marketable characteristics.

Mitsubishi's bringing back the Mirage nameplate in February and provided a peek of the new small car during this week's Outlander SUV introduction.

It'll be sold in two versions, the base LS at $18,990 and the GLS at $21,990. Both use a 1.2-litre three cylinder engine mated to a CVT automatic transmission.

The five-door hatchback replaces the Colt range.

"Everyone remembers having a Mirage," says Mitsubishi Motors' marketing head, Daniel Cook.

Once a cornerstone of the company's New Zealand line-up with more than 57,000 sold, the Mirage helped make Mitsubishi the country's leading brand in the early 1980s.

Cook's hoping the name will once again be all good for the company, especially with an overall fuel economy rating of 4.6-litres per 100km.

Been on Mitsi Aus's website since September or so.

Already on sale in Japan and most parts of South East Asia.
Even rumored to have a tricked up version.

I wonder what the delay is? To see if the 4A91 still fits yet retaining a similar fuel consumption, then they realize its too late to launch this year lets put it to next year? Haha

They never sold the Mirage in Norway(just the hatchback under the name Colt), but hope we get this one.
So pretty!

I went and had a look at the new rages at the sydney motor show. They are horrible. The interior plastic was horrible, it looked horrible, it probably rides horribly, and the engine makes no powaa. Although that hotted up version definately looks better than the hotted up one they had at the motor show.

I think I said this in another thread, or at least chat?

They're not meant to be the best car on the market. They're being marketted to compete with cars like the micra, corolla and small crappy cars like that, that are designed to get you from point a to point b in the most basic sense possible. It has a radio, check, it moves, check, it would somehow appeal to women in cuteness factor, check, costs <AU$5k to make, check.

i dont know why they would go and make this when they have the colt and the RAcolt that filled the rage spot
not that this isnt a good thing... hopefully they have something a bit better than a 4g15m in them, maybe a 4b~something 1.8L miv engine

edit: just read 1.3l cvt... thats gunna be great for fuel eco but suck for everythign else

This sporty one looks ok, but the base model....

From what i remember reading on Carsguide, there will be 2 engine types. A 1L version which was possibly turbo charged (cant remember) and a 1.2 version. The tester said they lacked 'go' and would struggle to accelerate.

It looks nice enough though, kind of looks like a pocket sized evo X lol

Some minor improvements can make them look bareable from the outside. They fill the requirement for the cheap-eco car. Just hope they release a sports version ;)

I've seen the commercial on TV a few times the last week or two.

Interesting they are advertising as a girly city car, my Mrs says they made it look ghey and made a suggestion that you may see them parked along Oxford St. LOL

Hopefully we get that sporty version here with some aggressive advertising.

Hero colour = purple.
Zippy / Fun.
fuel efficient.
connectivity.

They're marketing it for what it is. Don't expect anything else.

Advertising it in Hot Purple probably wasnt the best approach..... THe first thing i would do is lower the hell out of it and put some kind of body kit to make it look a bit more angrier.

I hate the bonnet and front on it and how the windscreen doesnt line up with the windows. I dont think they should have released it as the Mirage really
