This happened randomly last night te car started fine was working fine then when I got back to it about two hours later it was completely dead. We jump started it and it was fine then the next morning it started fine so I turned it off and then about 2 minutes later when I went to go start it it was completely dead again. Same thing happened this morning I have no idea what is going on with it.. But it cannot be the battery as it is new. Could you guys please help me.

New battery may be faulty, alternator or have you installed any New electric's in your car recently eg audio eequipment that may have problems causing the battery to drain?

My first bet would be the battery or alternator. But could possibly something in the electrical system draining it.

If you have an amp you did use a proper trigger wire from the head unit? May sound silly but I have seen it done many times where people have the amp trigger running off constant power, and it therefore never shuts off and drains the battery when the car shuts off.

system was installed over a year ago and done so professionally. battery is fine and about 4 months old. the electronics work but the car wont kick unless jump started with the jumper leads

We've given you the most likely causes... if you can't figure it out from them, then it's probably time to take it to an auto elec. They'll probably find the problem in 5 minutes by actually testing your car.

take it to an auto elec

i had same trouble and mine was caused by the wire that connects the alterator to the battery had corroded and basically fallen off so the alternator wasnt connected
and it was right down behind the engine so its hard to notice

You battery sounds like it just needs a good charge tbh, since you jumped it, did it run for a good solid 30minutesish to recharge the battery? Cause if you didn't the battery might've only held enough charge to start the system once and since you didn't leave it running to regain that charge you've lost it again... The cause for it to go flat in the first place can be from something accidental like leaving your lights on, or running the stereo too long whilst the car is off... if after the battery is charged fully, and there are no charge leaks, then you can only put it down to the alternator, in which that is auto electrician territory.

if u have a multimeter and test light. ill show u how to test it like an auto elec. ill show u the ways of the force.

Stupid question... are the battery terminals still nice and tight?

...Having multimeter will show that up though.

this. Could easily be a loose connection

That happened to me before, but in that case no electrics work so it's obvious what the likely issue is, but he said electrics still work so can't be that

Check the battery terminals for lose connections. Does the starter click when you try to turn it over? If so, check the body earth connection. If not, jump the car and put a multimeter inbetween the battery terminals - it should read around 14v. if it doesn't, your alternator is buggered. I could look at it if I was closer... being in the middle of nowhere sucks :(

what if the main fuse is blown? what if the light circuit is blown? what if it doesnt have ignition to the plug? no charge, but alternator could be fine.

1.check your terminals. if there tight, that doesnt mean anything, corrosion can cause a bad connection.
2.once jumpstarted check your charge
3.if the charge isnt anywhere between 13.6-14.2 you have a charge problem
4. check for power at the alternator stud when the car IS NOT running.
5.check the the plug. one side should be your light circuit, probing the light circuit will bring the test light on dull and illuminate the battery light in your cluster, the other side should have ignition
6.if the powers are fine, and the light circuit is fine, then you have yourself an alternator problem, if these are not fine, then check fuses. in some cases a blown charge light will cause the car not to charge, as that powers the excita diodes, a big rev will excite them anywhooo.

ps what does your car even do? no power at all? cranks? clicks?

Joshy knows the way of the force! *hails Joshy*
I'm still only an apprentice, and still only learning this stuff :(

Okay she is completely dead. Last time she ran I made sure she was running for atleast 30m the corroded wires sound possible man because I have never had any issues with the altinator before this. And my battery is a commodore battery.
