hey guys,

want to know what would be involved in a manual to auto conversion? anyone have any info on this?
also, anyone local selling an auto box let me know.

Ps, my gf wants my car, as im selling up, and she cant drive manual, and im not teaching her till she gets her liscence, ps#2 im teaching her how to drive.

Auto Lancer for the GF?

I would think you would need to swap the interior wiring that handles the TCU, and remove the clutch pedal, plug up the holes. Oodles of lancer and the wreckers with Auto boxes lol.

yeah thats what i was thinking wiring wise, just mainly clueless about whats involved with the shifter and stuff, does it have any sensors or some *poo* ?> lol... and yer, mrs says she wants it, but she cant drive manual yet, so i was gona convert it to auto, sell her car and take whatever she gets for it plus some if she doesnt even make $2500 lol. id prefer to keep my little green lancer in the family :)

I have sitting in the shed... a complete wiring loom from an auto lancer to suit a 1.8lt
Also have an ecu.

Was for my old coupe to change the 1.5 to 1.8 using the auto.
-Then I came to my senses :shifty:

It's not going anywhere, so if your interested let me know.

far man massive job, better to just get an auto, but if you really wanna a project and learn go for it, id be willing to help out aswell.

ive changed boxes before, with a floor jack on a honda civic lol,
i can get theboys from work to help me out, so the labour should be fine, its just mainly whats involved

81gl, a 1.8 box will fit on a 1.5 no hassles yeah? if so, can u let me know whats involved, and ill be very keen on getting the box off you, also, what changes to the loom need to be made? do i needa new ecu?

Teach her to drive manual for two reasons 1 its cheaper 2 if you learn auto your only learning to be half a driver. You could get someone to get the hang of it in a couple of hours in an open space even at worst case scenario .

nah you dont understand how painful it is driving her everywhere, to work, to the shops, for the past 4 years. i want her to get her liscense, and im the only one teaching her how to drive, so teaching her manual is not on the cards as of yet.
and i would rather he get the hang of perception, and the orad rules, get confident in making decisions before i get her thinking about shifting. only because that will take time i dont have.

just be aware that when you get a gearbox ask for the ecu at the same time there is a difference between the boxes and the ecu;s that they came with there are two versions of gearboxes with the seperate ecu and then there was the version were the ecu,s were combined into one ecu..
but it is a pretty straight forward swap
Gearbox, ecu, cables and wire loom. not sure but you may also need a thermo housing to I think the manual one interfers with the shift cable

The only challenge with manual driving is the friction point and hill starts. I got them both in one when I had a professional teaching me. My dad tried teaching me to drive a manual after I had driven mums auto for about 2 months, and he failed so miserably. (the reason for not driving a manual for so long was because my parents both drove autos and bought me a manual lol)

*poo* driving instructors almost had my brother want to drive an auto only, though mum wouldn't have a bar of it. Not a man unless you driving a man(ual) lol. Obviously this doesn't apply to your situation but it's gotta be easier to get a professional lesson or two than have her drive an auto and cost you considerable time and money. (more than you have probably already spent driving her around)

Just take her to a carpark late one night and teach her to drive it mate or take her out the back roads away from other cars and teach her to ride the clutch without stalling it and with out moving. My missus can drive my ss ute with ls1 and tex clutch (race clutch) without stalling.
Taught my ex wife to drive my worked 186 with stage 4 cam and huge carby to drive manual on her l's she did get out and walk home a couple of times but it's just one of those things you gotta deal with to teach them right

You learn quickly if you are forced to.

I was taught hill starts on the farm by dad parking me on a hill in front of the dam. I was so scared to roll into the water i never rolled back, when I think of it now I realise I had like 20meters till the water. But it had me tricked at the time.

About 15 years ago When i was 19 i used to have to get up at 4am and drive my misses from Richmond to sevenhills every morning cause she couldn't be *fudge*ed getting off her l's and then id go home start my job at 6:30am work to 6:30pm and then go back and get her from sevenhills where she'd wait at her mum house and get home after 8pm.
After a couple of months of that *poo* and telling her to get her p's ( she was given a car by her dad for free just sitting in my yard) i though *fudge* this *poo* and said i ain't doing it catch the train, long story short after a week of her walking 30hr to the training, riding the west line with the labourers at 4:30am and other assorted freaks, drug addicts etc then walking 30 minutes at the other end and then having to do it all again at the end of the week she booked her test and the next week had her licence. She didn't want to drive because she was scared and not very good manual but once she got going you couldn't get her out of the damn car.
Seriously look at what your thinking of doing , what has the word come too!!! Grow a set stop making excuses for your boss and tell her to get her own way to work if she can't but in the effort why should you.
I guarantee everyone around you sniggers and will think your a sucker if you do this
MAN UP, YOU GOTTA PAY THE COST TO BE THE BOSS

THIS!!!!!!

Don't let her cut your nuts off and carry them around in her handbag.

lol u guys are taking these way wrong, ive been teaching her to drive for the last 6-7 months in an auto corolla wich i bought her, shes practically ready to sit her test in an auto, so i dont want to spend another 5 months perfecting manual with her, when she can get her liscense like now, and i no longer have to drive her around.

its not a matter of not having any balls lol, i have no idea where u made that out of.....

but this was so i could keep the lancer, but it looks like massive f*cking work... so who knows...

Theres not really much to perfect, my friend did auto driving right upto the last month where she started learning manual, took her 2 days and she had it. You really just need to try and teach her manual, if she sucks that badly go for auto license...
