Lowering front only? Been done? Thoughts?

Good evening everyone,

I have done some searching, but can't seem to find if this has been done.

Now before you read the subject and think I'm crazy, here me out... My previous experience has been only with coilover setups, so I am a little noobish when it comes to only spring changes on standard struts. (yes, I'm aware of the reduced travel induced by lowered springs.)

03' mirage running 5-spoke Mitsi 13' rims wrapped in 175/70/R13 rubber.

Currently (stock)
Front - ~70mm clearance between top of the arch and top of the rubber.
Rear - ~45mm clearance between top of the arch and top of the rubber.

Taking into account that kings "low" are stated to drop about ~30mm; that would bring the front down and give the appearance of being lower and equal to the rear gap, give or take the ~5mm.

I'm assuming the body will take a slightly more slanted-forward look ?

Am I just looking at this through beer-goggles or does someone see where I'm coming from? Also, can anyone think of any problems that might be introduced from this idea?

Appreciate everyone's time and constructive input with this. Cheers all!

Mhhmm, i can see where your coming from. A few people have gone with putting superlows on the front and lows in the rear. You may want to consider that aswell. Personally though just slam it! Ha especially with 13's.

Cheers for your reply mate, I am actually satisfied with the rear height, the front just looks too high.

I love the bagged look as much as the next guy but not going for that with this.

Really crappy pic sorry but this is with super lows in the front and just stock height at the rear, so a bit more exaggerated than just lows.
You can see the line of the side skirt it slants down quite a bit, even slightly felt like it when i was sitting in the car (never drove it like that).
Head lights would need to be adjusted a lot also.
The rear of the car is actually really, really high so i'd put the lows in the front and rear.

when i did my suspension i had standards in the rear and lows in the front.
the car had a noticeable stance forward. it wont affect the car much at all.
you wont notice it. it becomes more down to what looks you prefer to have.

Haha yeah i know what your getting at, stock front height, especially if youve got a bigger rim is embarrasing. Borderline 4wd spec haha.

Mine at stock height.

Quick photoshop of what is wanted haha.
It does look 1 million times better low

Thanks for the pics guys.

Appreciate your pic especially Jazza2442; I'm definitely not going to go super-low as I think it would look 'too much' and most likely become the local police attraction.

Judging by your pic, low front and standard rear might be the ticket.

If your use to playing with coilovers why on earth would you want to go to spring/shock combo

Daily mate. Cheap flog about. Not wanting to make it a project or spend serious cash. Just loose change.

Unfortunately, nothing at the moment. :(

Sold my last two, and just bought a house, ~12 months ago, so throwing as much cash as we can at it.

We are looking to do something with an evo 9 in the next 7-8 months time. My wife has always wanted one and its her turn to have a project car.

LOL just coz he says the car is his daily, doesnt mean he has to have a project car.

hehe this is what mine looked like when i did the fronts first for a while. Tho they were kmac ultra lows i believe 3" drop

i used to have a good rake going on my coupe

stock suspension rears and superlows at the front, worked fine
not quite as nice as evenly lowered allround tho, but its fine IMO

For some reason Lancers have ridiculous ride height. And sadly it seems the suspension travel does not allow for enough lowering, unless using coilovers.

The rear up look is fairly common with Hondas and I think it's primarily done such that a) there is more weight over the front hence more traction, an b) in theory it doesn't allow air under the car so no lift, meaning more stability etc.

One thing to note is that for the car to look "level" it actually has to sit level, which means more gap at the front. If you try to level it by tire gap only it'll always look like the rear is too high

I had considered this, but I'm not worried if it is slightly stanced forward. IMO makes it look a little more aggressive.

Alright, all things considered I think I'm going to give kings lows a go on the front.

Thanks everyone for your input and help.

... On a side note, it could be good to make a sticky with example pictures and details of different springs and combinations. (i.e. super-low front, low rear, etc.) Just a thought.

i have some $500 coilovers for sale if u want. theyre not for a CE shape but they can be made to fit

Wondered how long a lowering thread would go for before the king of low chimmed in.

i'll just add on a bit

having the rear at stock height and front lowered... it handles fine, but it makes the front stiff and the rear very rolly due to the rear being softer
having a front wheel drive car you need to try keep the rear stiff and flat so that cornering is good, if your going rear stock front lowered i would strongly suggest a rear swaybar to counteract the body roll of the rear being significantly higher than the front

Good point. I was already weighing up how much that would matter being that it will never be track bound or aggressively driven. From my understanding, generally you run far more aggressive spring rates on the front than rear, I didn't think that the stock springs were "that" soft in comparison. Appreciate the info Res.
