Keyless entry not working - 2002 Lancer CE

Hi All,
I just bought a 2002 CE Lancer GLI and the keyless entry fob is not working. I changed the battery and the red light on the fob operates whenever i press any of the three buttons but there is on response from the car.

Key operates the central lock when used in the door but the fob is not doing anything.

There is a small red Led on the right hand side near the ignition switch but it is not working either not sure if that's for the immobilser.

I have tried reprogramming as per this link https://www.sandb.com.au/lancer.html

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I've just recently brought an '02 Commonwealth edition coupe and having the same issue too, does the hazards flash when your doing the programming?

Might be the alarm module? Could be worth trying to get a new module and swapping em out and see if that helps at all
That's the module I was talking about, but there is also a few fuses and relay, might be lucky and might've blown a fuse

Thanks Kazumi, where is it located in your car?
Driver side under the dash, you'll see the yellow plastic piece as pictured, remove that and the modules are on a bracket mounted in the same spot, it will be tucked up pretty tightly

Ok further update, so I stripped off the under dash and found the RKE wiring. I checked the three RKE fuses all good, was unable to locate module as shown in Kazumi's post. Its not with all the other wiring in that location. Managed to get a replacement fob and followed the instructions as supplied by the seller. So I was able to get to the programming mode and I did press a button on the new and subsequent old remote, and it did everything as detailed in the attachment, but still the remotes don't respond.

I also checked all the other fuses and wiring and it all looks ok.

Ok final post on this job.

I purchased this kit https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/184407793794

I decided to use the passenger door as the starting point.

  1. Disconnect negative lead on battery
  2. Remove door card and flexible plastic liner
  3. Locate loom that is connected to door cylinder lock ( 3 cables only),
  4. Identify lock and unlock wires, in my case the blue cable with yellow stripe was the unlock and the blue with white stripe was the lock
  5. Splice into these two cables and introduce a two cable loom that you have made up or purchased
  6. Ensure loom is zip tied away from window slide by removing the speaker and cable tying everything
  7. Tag everything so you know what is connected to what
  8. Feed your new loom through the door and into the passenger footwell via the rubber umbilical tube
  9. Remove glovebox
  10. Pull the new loom over to the drivers side and remove under dash cover
  11. In my case there was a free 12V terminal not being used, so that was my power source
  12. The new loom is connected to the white and white/black cables on the new control module
  13. From the new control module the negative and remaining yellow and yellow/black cables are all earthed
  14. Test system
  15. Install new control module under the dash in a suitable area
  16. reinstate everything including the glovebox and door trim
  17. Test again
Best $20 I have ever spent....
:)
