Hi guys.

Most of you will quite possible piss your pants about this but I'm looking at installing a towbar on my 2.4L CH ES.

Only doing this as I need a vehicle for towing a pitbike or two and I don't exactly what to buy another car.
Anyone else done this and can recommend a towbar installation kit?

Cheers guys.

I know this isn't a kit really but it's tow bar related nonetheless... I installed a tow bar I bought from the wreckers on my CE. Just make sure all the bolts are there or it'll be annoying. Probably take the bumper off too before installing as it will be a lot easier for access. Wiring can be DIYed from scratch.

There's one on ebay for sale. Just search lancer tow bar.

Cheers mate.
I found that one on eBay. Just wasn't sure if it would fit or if it was even genuine.

Will look into that product further.

I have a CG and I found a second hand tow bar at a wreckers. It ended up being a CH tow bar. I still fit it. Installation was a lot easier when I removed the bar first.

There is a difference between a CG and CH tow bar. The CG tow bar tongue is lower than a CH as the number plate is in the bar not in the boot.

I just removed the tow bar assembly off my CH wagon (holding onto it so can't sell it to you unfortunately). It was simple enough, just fiddly, probably more than it needed to be as I didn't jack it up or remove the rear bumper or anything haha. There's just a whole lot of bunch of bolts involved, that will all line up with existing holes in the frame when you mock fit it. Only little thing I needed to do was take apart the tow bar frame on the muffler side since it will need to be navigated around, and this will likely be the case when fitting one. My recommendations are to jack it up so you've got more room to move, assemble the muffler side of the frame once you have it in place above the muffler, and possibly have a helper able to hold it in place while you secure it.

Hey i have a brand new tow bar (ex mitsu genuine stock) says for cg lancer which should fit. Comes with wiring loom. Bar itself has been outside for a little bit so showing signs of age even though its never been fitted. $100 if you want it. Im in adelaide.

I had a Hayman Reese bar installed on my 2012 Lancer, but find it strikes the ground every time I head up or down my driveway. Yes, it's a bit steep, but this towbar is a fair bit lower than most I see, so is it this towbar actually usable given the Lancer height?

Any ideas on what can be done to raise the towbar or deal with this ground striking situation?

I'm assuming the tongue and ball are still on it? You could remove the tongue when you're not using it. It's probably just like 2 bolts and will look better anyway

Yes, but the part striking the ground I'd the underside of the towbar itself, not the hitch, so removing it would not help.

If you are getting a tow bar from a wreckers make sure it is for a CH lancer. The CG lancer tongue is different as it should sit lower. I fit a CH tow bar to my CG and the tow ball blocks part of the number plate as on the CH the number plate is on the boot not on the bumper.

All good.

A mate found a tow bar for his older modeled Commodore so he's going to be the tow-monkey.

To find a CH Lancer at a wreckers in Adelaide is like trying to find a virgin in college...
