Ideas for a project car?

Hi all its been a while since ive been on here, however since my car was written off (not at fault) and ive received the payout and such i have a wad of cash to throw about on a car. I was thinking an FTO/CE project or something (Non-turbo) I dont really know what is out there in terms of projects and such, but i would do all the work myself and such, it would probably be a donor engine into a ce or something but im not sure. i have about 7000 so tell me what the possibilities are absolutely anything is welcome :)

Cheers

Depends which direction you want to go, track/road weekender, full track spec, etc... If you want non-turbo, look at 4G92 mivec motor being dump into a rage or similar... if you're doing most of the work youself you can get away with spending more on parts and half cuts etc... Ask anyone here and we'll say lancers because, it is a lancer forum after all.

7k is alot for a project car
buy a cheap mirage shell and go from there, probably pick one up for <1k if ur lucky or maybe splurge and get one with a good body for 2k

buy a set of coilovers for 1.3k
buy a 4g93 or 4g94 for <1k
do brake upgrades for <800
spend rest on engine, rims and polishing off the suspension

Yeah I was thinking about most likely going back to a CE, and dropping in something with a bit of grunt, I remember seeing somewhere that someone put an rb30 into an older lancer? Anyone know what model? Yeah i dont want to much so 7000 is my definite limit. It would be mainly a weekend and possibly track/street car but yeah it all depends on the end product i guess, but yeah im just looking for ideas at the moment :)

Start putting nissan engines and LS1's into CE's then that 7k budget of yours will start looking like 21k.

Hmm, so other than the 94 into the CE what other options are there? even something that has only been a handful of times before

4g13, 4g18, 4g15, 4g92, 4g93, 4g94, 4g63, 4g69, 6g72, 6g75, 6a12, 6a13tt

Would the 6a12 mate up with a 4g93 box as the first part of the code is the same (f5m42) even though they would have very different ratios in comparison to the 6a12 box?

nope they dont mate, very different, starter motors are in different spots
according to matty the 4g69 box is the closest to a 6a12, this is yet to be tested tho but he was pretty sure

Is their any other way of creating something with some solid power at the wheels? with the budget, as i dont think it would permit for many engine mods in the end

i recomend 4g94
cheap, easy to work on, parts are readily available, plenty of torque from a long stroke 2L and some parts from 4g93 and 4g92 bolt on

matty has built one on quite the budget, its very very good

There is no replacement for displacement

Go look at the 4G93 DOHC or 4G94 DOHC conversions, or if you can find a mivec head give it a bore out and then you have a 2L rev monster that'll hit 9k.

Otherwise if you want solid N/A, look at doing high compression with forged engine parts w/ DOHC head... but that aint in budget... Your best bet for making a 7k budget would be find a fto mivec half cut and swap engine and brakes and box into the lancer all which will majority bolt on/in. Money is you only issue, as soon as you want to push heaps out of a n/a engine you need to start forking out a bit more, where as if you got a cm5a half cut or a evo halfcut which are pre turbo, you're pushing close to the power you'd be pushing out on n/a but at stock level.

4b11's have yet to be put in a CE to my knowlege
but if u want to be one of the 1st go right ahead

Nope, you'd have to weld in engine mounts and probs re-adjust the exhaust more seeming the orientation is horizontally flipped.

Engines you look for: 4G9X, 4G63/9, 6A12/13 plus numerous variations of the rest...

we can't tell you everything and when it comes to building it yourself we won't be there, do some research, look through the CE section, losts of stickys about performance of 1.5/1.8L and engine upgrades... actually HERE

A project car can be any car that you want. It doesnt have to be a performance car to begin with. Just depends how much work your willing to do.

Power isnt everything. Invest in good tyres then work on the handling. Next look at reducing the weight of the car. This does not mean CF everything either; just make more careful decisions in what you want inside the car (eg. do you really need more speakers than a JB Hi Fi store?? If not get rid of them). Swap parts for lighter versions if they are out there.

Improving the power/weight ratio and improving your handling is just as good as shoving go faster bits under the bonnet. Handling people usually do at the same time as performance but there is nothing out there to say you cant do handling first. Not many people would seriously look at weight reduction as they either think its all CF and they cant measure it on a dyno...

Make the car more fun not necessarily more powerful

*poo* sorry wrong tab i copied haha, awkies. With the 94, what is the mivec head to put on it, just so i know what im looking for, 92?
