Ok i drive a mitsubishi lancer glxi 4 door sedan (manual).

About 2 weeks ago, my horn started playing up randomly .. I came outside to move my car one day, when all of sudden my horn started going off whilst i had the keys in the ignition. I quickly took out the keys, opened the bonet and inspected the fuse. however nothing wrong or out of place, but whenever i put the fuse back in it starts again :S

To be honest the amount of people that cut me off has doubled since ive lost my horn :( what am i suppose to do? give them the finger all day :(

I'd truly apprechiate any help, thanks in advance.

check inside the actual steering wheel, if its like mine the cover will pop off, sounds like a loose conection to me

Do you have an aftermarket steering wheel? if so pop the horn off and make sure it isnt earthing out

rip the front cover off the wheel, its probably just that *poo* metal thing that contacts to make the horn go off having been pushed in/bent or something.(assuming a ce, probably similar for others though)

The horn button switches an earth inside the steering wheel, not a power, the only way ur gona be able to seewat it is if u take the steering cover off an see, this also happened to me and i found i had nicked the switch wire and it was constantly getting earthed making your horn go off

mine was doing this the other day
it turns out the positive wire had come loose and was dangling around inside the boss kit and occasionally touching inside.
i just removed it all, resoldered the connection and it was fixed.

its an earth connection, hence why it touches on the metal inside your steering wheel inside and goes off, because its bypassing the switch and finding an earth

nah mine wasnt the earth. my earth was still screwed in nice. the positive wire got caught and while turning it was pulling and then it got pulled off its soldered connection. so i had to 'rebuild' my steering wheels horn lol.

Lol mate, theres no positive wire to your horn switch at all, just an earth. Wen u press the button it earths your horn making it go off

i have a positive in my horn.... and the negitive is inside the boss kit

Unless you have a positive connection associated with your horn, your not grounding anything.... And I can't understand how grounding a circuit makes the horn go off... doesn't it need power to operate, since it is a speaker no?

my horn is wire diff to standard. so i have all wiring for it in the boss kit with the acc supplying the positive

That picture could be quite confusing for some people that have not had much experience with electrics.

You have drawn 2 leads connected to the horn, which could indicate that there is a positive wire and negative wire.

Possibly be better off explaining the path of the electricty.

Battery (wire) Fuse (wire) Horn (wire) Switch (earthed through the chassis back to battery) Battery

i understand what he is trying to explain, but that is the standard way of a horn, in my case the positive come up to the wheel aswell and is taped into the acc.
