Header leak prob

Ok so I have this leak now after installing the headers & i'm really not sure where it's coming from as I can only hear the leak when driving & not when it's sitting & give it a rev up.
I had been assured that I could re use the existing gaskets but am thinking that I should replace the gaskets seeing as though i'm going to have to pull it back apart anyway so is this the right move?
Also i'm wondering about the aluminum heat shield thing between the top of the headers & the spark plugs...should I get rid of this or does it need to be there to protect the plug leads? It dosen't make a hell of alot of sense to me to use metal as a heat shield if thats what it's supposed to do.
Cheers for any help or suggestions.

have you spoken to liue? you got it off him right?
would keep the heat shield on too

Yeah talked to him already, I don't think the leak is in the headers themselves though, at least I hope not.

i know it sounds silly but go over the nuts and bolts again.. mine whistled a bit for a couple days after i did my first header instal.. realised a couple nuts were loose

Nah those headers are fine, i checked all the welds before they were sold. Just replace your gaskets.
Ah so they used to be yours...how come you got rid of them?

Ta Roy, yeah I did that a couple of times now.
Pulled the whole thing off again today, got new flange gaskets & some proper bronze goo instead if that crc crap that I originally bought, couldn't get a mani gasket today cause no one has them in stock but did a big re seal on the old ones & she's still leaking. I think I did strip one of the mani nuts over tightening it so will grab a replacement one tomorrow & see if that will seal it up.
Thanks for your help and advise fellas

So I went down to the local muffler joint today to get some help tracking down the leak & the bloke there reckons there is no leak it's just the exhaust gasses whistling through the pipes...Took him for a drive & he swore he couldn't hear any leak like I can hear...I reckon he's full of crap.

Can't smell exhaust gases or anything & can only hear it when driving & under power, not when idling.
Just talked to Luie & am heading up to see him thursday to try & sort it out.

I get a rustling noise in my exhaust, which I suspect is due to the cruddy design of the RRM headers and the flex joint.

When i first had problems I took it to the dealer who had no idea and said maybe it was exhaust, so then went to Oak Flats Muffler Men and he came for a drive and said its was probably the flex joint in the RRM headers had failed. Sure enough popped it up on the hoist and the inner part of the flex joint on the headers was rooted so they replaced it. But like I said at the beginning I thinks its playyin up again. Oh and my noise only happens when the engine is under load and a decent rate of flow/velocity has been extablished in the exhaust system...

Also if it were an exhaust leak you'd likely be getting black marks around it wouldn't you???

nah the headers werent mine i never had a 1.5 lol i have seen them in person and did inspect them just letting you know no cracks etc. Why would it sound like a cracking noise chase. If its leaking it will sound like a muffled fart

this is correct. Happened when my dump pipe was loose.

if the gaskets leaking between the head the manifold it will sound like a cracking/ticking sort of noise. you should know the noise im describing myles.

Ok, thanks everyone for your help & suggestions. The prob is fixed now & she sounds great. I talked it over with Louie after spending a day with him trying to sort it out & he ended up swapping these over for some mild steel headers. Installed them today & just went for a test run & they are awesome, no more pinging & she sounds like a nice car again.
