Gearbox Oil Change Questions

Hi Guys,

Looking to change the gearbox oil in my Proton M21 (with a CC lancer gearbox) as it baulks in 2nd when cold.

Just cracked the filler to make sure it'd undo and when I did it appears the oil level is well above the filler hole, as a constant stream ran out for several minutes.

I don't think this is right, I believed the oil should only just trickle out. has it been overfilled or is this right? Apparently they take 1.9 lt of gearbox oil.

Also am i correct in identifying the drain plug is the big flat thing next to the case around the middle of the engine bay. What size is it? I don't have a spanner big enough so will have to purchase.

Thanks

not sure about the lancers but generally the drain plug will be on the bottom of the box and there should be another plug somewhere on the side to check the level or to fill, usually you would remove the filler/level plug and let the oil drain until it stops, which indicates the correct level..!

so confused, I would almost assume you have undone the drain plug

can we have pics please

edit: this might help you, this is a CE 1.8 gbox tho

I also thought I was undoing the drain plug with the rate it was coming out, thus thought I'd better check.

The plug you can see midway up the g/box should be the filler and the drain plug is right on the bottom just out of sight in the pic.
