Hi guys,

I have a 2001 GLi 1.6L lancer. its done alot of Kms. Ive recently started to smell quiet a strong fuel smell after driving it. I havent noticed any leaks under the car or in the engine bay. Im kinda hoping for a quick and easy solution but knowing my luck there wont be. If someone can help that would be great.

Thanks

if it was anything like mine,
i had a broken O ring on the number 4 injector, and it was spraying fuel around
also check your lines to see for cracks or abrasions and fresh 'wet' spots
so check that :p

*edit*
oh and a good service might fix it, swap filter and oil etc... (it wont hurt atleast :p )

You have a 1.6 in your lancer??

Or did you mean 1.5?

But yes have a look for what Ces said.
Also if it smells worse at the rear you may have a hole in your tank.

^^ what Cesario said.

Also, your fuel rail is supplied by hard metal pipes, but have flexible unions. Check these unions for perishing. Pumped fuel is under high pressure and any weaknesses will be evident in those unions. Do it soon, as stray fuel in an engine bay can be a fire hazzard.

Good luck.

Yeah sorry, 1.5L. Its a liquid fuel smell. Id need to get the workshop manual. I checked the seal around the fual tank cap and thats fine. I havent noticed any fuel puddles under the car either. The smell is strongest at the rear.
