Faulty seals?

parked my 99 ce lancer coupe on a downward slope over the w/e (front of car facing down) and it poured rain all weekend so i go to get into my car yesterday and there was maybe 5mm of water pooled in the passenger side feet area. Anyone know WHERE THE F#%& it could have came from? ive had a look at all the seals on doors and even boot and they seam fine :(

I have this same problem when it rains heavily. It's coming in behind the dash so I'm thinking it's possibly overflowing from that drip tray where the wipers are. I need to pull it off and have a good look in there. I have had problems in the past with my VW's sunroof, because the drains are clogged up, so I have a feeling the same is happening here where there is probably a whole heap of crap in there. Just a theory though - pull your carpet forward and mine had a drip line down the sound deadening in front of the passengers feet where it was coming in.

sweet ill check it out more thoroughly tomorrow when i have time and let yous know if i find the problem!

ps thnx for the quick replys

Maybe go to a self serve car wash and spray water on it. If you high pressure the door seals and it doesn't leak, or doesn't leak much it wouldn't be from there.

If it happens without rain your heater core may be faulty.

Does anyone know where to find door seals from and their cost?

easy to tell if it's your heater core.. your radiator will be low... good point. Plus, it should have a tainted colour and taste to the liquid...

Usually, you can get reproduction door seals online, several companies make them... I will try to find some NOS or reproduction seals online or locally. Where are you at again Spetz?

since when do people go around drinking the water on there floor

Mate, not sure if that was meant to be funny or what?!

Because ethylene glycol is toxic, manufacturers add an embittering agent or taste-averse additive...this stops accidental ingestion by children or animals...

The reason I suggested taste, was, a quick dab of your finger over the liquid can quickly tell if it is, in fact, coolant. This saves you time, where tricky leaks can often be the result of all of the aforementioned reasons; door seals, windscreen seals or delaminated chemical bond, heater core or blocked airconditioner drip trays, etc...

Just trying to put some perspective in here.

My Lancer is in Australia so anything available to Australia is fine.
Also if you know, those rubber bits that the windows slide on, ie, inside the frame, can they be changed?

Yes, those can be changed. BTW, I haven't forgotten, I will be off work next week...so I will be able to start searching for you!
