hey :D

so basically what i need to kno is how to loosen/remove the fan belt and alternator belt from a SOCH ce engine (or DOHC if its the same)
if anyone knows and could supply some pics on how to do it would be much appreciated

cheers

from memory theres a bolt u loosen and it allows you to adjust in or out something on the belt that holds it on - dont think they have pre tensioners but not sure - so might move 1 of the accesories like altenator or something ....look down the left side of the engine bay for things that are attached to the belt(s) you want to remove and then look for any bolts that can be loostened near the belt (hahah that might fail quite badly actually) ...from mem the bolt is near the top of the engine that u loosen off but dont quote me on that...

ok, so i found the one for the alternator thats all good

i need to kno where the one for the aircon and pwr steering belt is, pictures would really be handy if at all possible

argh - its too dark out here to go look at my engine bay to find the bolt for ya and take a pic of it -_- hopefully someone on here knows where it is .... im not 100% sure what the layout for belts is but if you wanna find the other belt bolt then look under the engine and get a light so u can shine it around - shouldnt be *too* hard to find the bolt to loosen the belt

Just remembered i have the workshop manual on my computer lol - here's what i think you need to know! good luck , the workshop manual is also available from Auslancer.com website as Ryan is hosting the file caus' it is a very good guide to fixing problems with CE lancers and covers everything u need to know - can find it here http://www.auslancer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=43

cheers that should help alot, i had a look and i still cant see the one for the aircon, but i'll have a look in the morning when its light

photos of the bolts and their wherabouts is something i still really want, so tomorrow if anyone is kind enough could they post some photos
the 2d diagrams are a bit confusing as they dont match up with how my pullys are 100%
if i can find where the bolts are im going to write a tutorial on installing a lightweight underdrive pully for the 4G15
which will probably help a few people if they ever feel like doing that mod :D

ok i found out how to loosen the aircon pully- by moving the aircon compressor along this rail thing, going to eb a *mum* to loosen that bolt though, cant fit any tools in the area
so airon pully and alternator pully are a go hopefully

one thing that is bothering me is in the diagrams there is a water pump pully and power steering pully on one belt
i have my powersteering pump pully on my aircon belt sooo... wtf
and i have no water pump pully that i can see... wierd

nah, i think i'll need more than a screw driver, the loosening bolts need a socket
anyways about to start in an hour this morning so hope it all goes well

ok.... update, i have all the belts off the car (which is what i wanted)

now im up to taking off the actual pully... which is a *mum* coz it just turns with the socket and never unscrews
anyway if anyone has some advice on this would be helpful
im going to search how to do it on the net aswell
hopefully its not too hard ^_^

Timing belt goes up to the cam.

yeh lol, i kno i didnt take that one off
u just scared me a bit
nah all works fine, just put it all back together then

UPDATE:
couldnt get the pully wheel off with my rattle gun, and im not trying the method heaps of ppl on youtube do with the breaker-bar
coz it looks stupidly dangerous

so i gave up and decided to take it to a mechanic to do it

the good things i learnt out of it is, i now know how to tighten my belts, and replace the aircon/pwr steering belt and the alternator belt
so yeh atleast i learned some *poo*

yeh im fair proud of myself to even get that far (sorta) on my own

thanks for the help drakos, much appreciated

my fan belt squeels like a *mum* at times.....in terms of actually changing the whole belt, which should i buy? and from where..

if the belts are frayed or damaged:
take off your origonal belt(s) that you want changed and take them to repco, supercheap, autobarn any of those types of places and they will measure the belt and give u a new one the same length
which u fit back on tightly

or if there is no visible damage to the belt i think you shouldjust try tightening them, save u some money
+ they may squeak a bit when the car is just turned on when tight, and then they calm down after about 20sec (especially when cold eg. winter)

chances are they just need tightening tho
