A quick DIY on how to remove and/or install rear speakers in your CC coupe.

What you will need:

1 x Very small flathead screwdriver
8 x bolts and nuts OR 8 x screws
2 x 6.5" speakers
1 x pliers

Step One: You need to remove your speaker covers from the parcel shelf. To do this, you need to stick your head in the boot and undo 4 screws from underneath that are holding the speaker cover in place. The green circles are the speaker cover screws, the blue circles are the holes for 6.5" speakers.

Step Two: The speaker cover should come right off, now you can line up your 6.5" speaker to the holes in the parcel shelf. If using bolts/nuts you'll need a 2nd person to be either tightening the bolts while you hold the nuts or vice versa. Go ahead and mount as many holes as you can (3 is enough if you can't reach the 4th). If your parcel shelf was as retarded as mine, you'll need to use huge washers to catch the edge of the speaker and will probably only be able to teach 3 of the 4 mounting holes.

You could also make a small wooden base for your speaker like Mikey (EVL20T) did and mount your speaker to the wooden base, and mount the wooden base to the parcel shelf.

Step Three: Strip 1cm off each the positive and negative wires and twist them to the positive and negative wires in the boot, then using connectors or electrical tape to achieve this. Then plug the positive and negative wires into their corresponding terminals on the speaker.

Step Four: Test your speaker by sending the sound to the rear (fader) and then to the left/right (balance). If you hear nothing, check your wiring again and make sure they are connected to the right terminals.

Step Five: Screw the speaker cover back on and repeat steps 1-5 for the other speaker.

If I have left anything out, feel free to add.

Some CC lancers didn't come with rear speaker covers

But if yours has speaker covers, you do not need to undo the screws underneath, all u need to do is pinch the white lockin tab on each 1 and the covers will come off

If you do not have them speaker grills but you want some, they can be found in Mitsubishi CC GSR, EVO 1/2/3 Lancers and Proton M21 coupes, maybe even in a Proton Wira

Some CC Lancers already have 6x9 cutout in the parcel tray, mine pictured below, if you don't want to use 6x9, then do as I did above, you can make it neater if you want to :)

also you may be able to install with out removeing the covers at all simply line the entire speaker assembly up from underneath and screw it on

My 93 only have 4" speakers in the front and a tape deck.

One of the first things I did when the car was new was got a new system fitted, including a boot mounted CD changer. Remember this was 93, long before the iPod and single CD in dash were new and expensive.

I got a good Kenwood tape system and it worked great, even though I hardly used the tape deck. Also got 6x9 3 way speakers fitted in the back. Later I fitted (myself) some better 4" speakers up front under the dash. More than 10 years later I replaced the Kenwood with a newer model when the CD changer failed. Got a 2nd CD changer system, iPods were still expensive. Late last year I fitted some new 6x9 Kenwood speakers which I picked up months before at the WOW closing down sale, less than $50! Then at the new year sales I picked up a new Kenwood single DIN CD head unit with Bluetooth, USB and remote for just $125 at JB HiFi. I ripped out the CD changer unit and it only took about 5 minutes to change the head unit as the wiring plugs were exactly the same. So glade I went with Kenwood again.

The hardest part about fitting the new unit was the speakers, so close to the back window and the screws go down. Maybe I should have drilled them out and used small bolts?

Sorry for the long winded ramble.

It's handy to have one of these for that (offset screwdriver)
