Cold air intake, way too loud

Just finished making my cai for my 2007 ch wagon….
Should have left it stock,loudest fast and furious sounding Intake ever
I know why the factory airbox has a big resonator chamber/sound cancelling doodad or what ever it is
I used 3 inch stainless exhaust from my vf 6.0 wagon because it was lying around and a 3 inch k and n pod down into the space behind the bumper
If anyone has a factory airbox in perth let me know.

Well after another drive I have become used to the noise and cooler weather helped a lot too,drove like an absolute slug yesterday. Having never modified a 4 banger I guess this is how they sound. The cai is near identical to others I’ve seen advertised for sale so it is what it is. Stepping out of my fg turbo this thing feels like a retarded snail but it’s growing on me. Lucky it’s the best condition lancer wagon I’ve ever seen. Looks mint

Tickford220, I removed the large resonator from my intake and experienced the same thing so put it back on.
Part of the problem is the stock tuning that is designed to be a "retarded snail" below 3500rpm. The combination of retarded ign timing, egr and pathetic intake cam lift on the low speed cam lobes gives rise to the loud droning on throttle openings at low rpms since it is not very interested in taking in more air (lack of volumetric efficiency) rather it just crashes manifold vacuum hence the droning noise.
To some degree, appropriate tuning can improve the VE below 3500rpm so it becomes just a snail, not a retarded snail below 3500rpm and the droning is lessened.
 
steeaboo, Who are you referring to? I didn't want to make my car louder, I wanted to lose the resonator so I could replace the corrugated air tubing with a better flowing, smooth silicone hose. Not into loud cars, just fast, efficient cars.

that's a unique complaint, "i tried to make my car louder now its too loud" :laughing:
I never said i wanted to make my car louder, you assumed i already knew it would sound like crap with a cai fitted.
I wouldnt have even wasted my time doing it tbh.
Probably made 10-15 custom intakes in the last 23 years,none ever sounded as *poo*e and obnoxious as this.

cheers mate,ive never bothered doing mods just for noise,i wouldnt have bothered if i had any idea it would sound this rubbish,i guess thats why you join a forum,ill take help/advice when i can get it.
