Check engine light on

My check engine light has just come on :/ nothing noticeable seems to be wrong with my engine. My lancer is an '06 ES model and has done about 90,000km. Any common problems with the CH at around this time? I want to try everything first before going to Mitsubishi to have to plugged into the computer.

Also, you can pull error codes using OBD2 port. Not sure how on your CH but if you can give it ago it will tell you what is causeing the error.

It hasn't been serviced for about 6 months. Was about to do one in the coming weeks. How would I find out how to get codes from the OB2D port. I work at Toyota and we have a computer we plug them into. I'm assuming Mitsubishi would have the same but it would cost a pretty penny to get a diagnosis from them

a) Why do people keep expecting people to know the answer to the most vague problems. First port of call if your check engine light comes on, take it to a mechanic, seriously, most of us aren't professionals here and we can't go it's definately this because we're no where near the car. Seriously it could be anything from a faulty signal coming from a random sensor to do with the glove box compartment being open (made up).

b) If you're still determine to DIY fixing it, which you may soon find out you can't (and in which then you'll need to take it to mitsu or a mechanic who will still plug in their OBD scanner, trust me, even though you know the issue they'll still find the issue themselves), you'll still need to get what all of ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ those guys are talking about.

/rant.

Firstly I didn't expect an exact answer. I know the check engine light could mean any number of things. I just wanted some general help (which I was getting) to try and save me an expensive and inconvenient trip to Mitsubishi. I'll see if the Toyota computer can connect to it and I'll report back what the problem was.

what seems to be the most common cause for a CEL on these cars is the 02 sensor on the exhaust... if this is the case Mitsubishi will be looking for $300 plus but either a second hand one or a sensor from Coventry Repco Autoone will be so much cheaper... if this is the sensor that is faulty it will not cause any harm to your car if you still drive it around for a few weeks while you scource another

go through bursons.. their aftermarket parts r SOO much cheaper n more efficient then the OEM ones
just take yours out of ur CE and take it in with you to get the right measurements and thread pattern :)

O2 Sensor Prices for Lancer CH (2.4Ltr MIVEC):

Genuine = $390* (from Mitsubishi)
aftermarket = $110* (from AutoPro)

Not sure if the aftermarket is direct fit or not.

btw I am referring to AutoPro not Autobarn. :D

*Prices are as of September, 2012.

I have just made this huge ple of scrap that is possibly worth $3k worth of parts going to scrap on wednesday... bit of a shame really but that the way it is cant keep everything.

Sell the parts off on eBay. Make some extra dough and save money for some poor guy looking for lancer parts. :thumbup:

Problem solved :)

lol people do not want to pay for parts especially second hand items they would sooner spend hundreds of dollars buying BN and then have the satisfaction of complaining about how they got ripped off...

I have had several FS on this site even giving people the opportunity to grab really good condition seats MR bodykits dashes gauges and mechanical parts and no one is interested in even offering a price.

You're on the wrong side of the divide :(

I have had a bit of luck with selling parts online. Your right, demand is low but eventually it does sell. :D
