Changing from Old Alpine to Pioneer car stereo

what!

it works a charm and have never had any problems.. :D

Maybe it works for you but in the worst possible case it could potentially start a fire! Ideally solder it and then heatshrink or use self fusing tape

guys spit out the $15-20 and get a plug in harness so you dont have to chop the oem plug off.
you can get these plugs to go to sony pioneer kenwood etc but if it doesnt suit your unit chop the head unit end off and solder/heatshrink them together.
thats neat and neater than splicing and not permanantly cut your harness and solder to it directly.

ive changed head units liek 6 times over the years and always my stereo harness is intact and uncut.

Pretty sure the CE I did a while back already had some adaptor between the car's harness and the OEM deck. They never wanted the OEM deck back in so I just chopped that plug off and soldered it upto the new deck's one. So might be worth people check that out...

Oh and this self amalgamating tape is the bomb: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=NM2826

Stuff mucking around with different sizes of heat shrink and heat guns, one roll of this stuff and you're set for anything. It's especially handy for when splicing onto cables and you can't get heat shrink on....

you are correct ryan.

the standard cd player from the later model ce as standard or earlier model as option has a plug in harness. just cut the head unit side off and solder on the one that comes with the new head unit.
heatshrink all nice and have a beer on yourself for the good job done.

heatshrink is $1
just dont get raped from supercheap for $10 the price.
lighter $2.
no need to get $20 tape.

Hey guys! I did it!
Used the heatshrink and now its working like a charm!
Couldnt find the adapter I was mentioning in the first post, but no worries as the job's done :)

And thanks for these awesome replies!
