Ch Suspension & Handling

I put whiteline sway bars on one of my commodores a few years ago. Every time I went up a steep driveway and the car wasn't straight I would snap or bend the link bars :( so sometimes thicker is not always better. I also find with coilovers the car will go up on 3 wheels if not tackled straight on....

Yeah mine already goes up on 3 wheels on certain driveways and that's just on king springs. ended up buying the sway bar, no issues so far (touch wood)

Are the VRX Wagons the same suspension setup as the sedans? I'm finding the body roll is up there, as is to be expected with a wagon and would like to stiffen it up a bit. So would a Whiteline sway bar fit as well? And is it just wasted on a wagon if it fits?

I'm also finding the ride a little bit harsher than I expected. When I first got the car it seemed ok but I think the honeymoon is over, lol. The car is all stock, running 16" wheels with 50 profile tyres and I'm finding it's a bit jumpy and transmits every bump and crack more than I expected. Even my wife commented on it the other day....

I know they are lowered from the factory but I'm not sure if that and the low (ish) profile tyres are the main reasons? Maybe I need to get it checked out? The car has done 98000km so I would have hoped that the suspension would have more life in them for a while at least?

Also, I can't remember the Tyre brand off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure they are Chinese tyres, I didn't recognise the brand when I last looked. They are fairly new though, I would have thought this may also contribute?

Cheers.

The tyres can make a huge difference to ride quality, try dropping pressures down for a day or two to see if they are the problem.

32 PSI is a safe bet. I've now got lowered springs, sway bar and strut bar in the rear and it's stiff as in the rear. Everyone who's been in the back complains about how uncomfortable it is. On the upside, it handles well in corners. Like really well, i can hit corners at 20kph higher & can accelerate into/earlier out of them

The VRX is rather nasty on bumps due to the heavier springs and shocks than standard models. I never noticed how bad mine was until my wife drove it and I was the passenger. Reminded me of the old Datsun 1800, rough as!

The only softer cheap option is king springs with KYB shocks. I find on my son’s lancer they are just a little more forgiving. You may find if your car has done over a 150k your shocks are probably leaking.

The sway bar will make a huge difference to your body roll issue. Just try to go up everything straight or you will break the back link bars (the bit connecting it to your chassis).

Tyre pressure around 34psi is what I aim for. I use Micheline pilot 3 tyres, around $200ea for 16 inch rims. Perform well wet or dry but not the most comfortable tyre and noisy.

Yeah i got monroe rear/KYB front shocks when i did my kind springs. only a 30mm drop so it will hopefully allow the shocks to last at least a year. I'm disappointed cause the whiteline kit didn't come with links for the swaybar, so i'm counting on them not breaking haha. may even go back to stock but we'll see. not sure how long i'll hold onto the old girl.

From what I hear it’s the rear link bars that break on the CH. They are pretty basic item and can be fabricated in stronger steal if you find a small metal fabricator in your area.
