hey guys, new to the forum. im from northside brisbane. (pic of my car below.)
love the site, full of heaps of info

im looking at getting new rims for my '98 CE Lancer sedan, and im just wondering what wheel offset i should be getting?
i believe it has 'super low' suspension.

im looking at buying rims off the net as they are cheaper than in shops, so i need a offset so i can purchase.

rims in picture, arent on car. im running stocko's atm, as the rims are stuffed.

Depends on the offset/look you want, most people run about a +40 offset. If you have a look at Lachys ride, his rims are around +20 and so they stick out further. If you have a look at Merrills ride he has -67mm offset so really super wide.

Keep in mid you have super low suspension, so unless you start with some camber you will have trouble fitting any wider than about +35 without scrubbing, depending on rim width too.

i recomend the 35-40+ unless u are keen on some camber wear and some gaurd rolling

id say 16x8+20 with a 195, rolled guards and coilovers

but you might not be keen on that. +40-+35 if you buy a 7" rim

offset number means nothing with a width.

have a look at other peoples rides with a look you like, and PM them to ask for details, and work of that.

ill be going for 15x8 +20 or +12, with probably a 205/45

When i said width, i meant how it will fit in his car, not the offset will change with the width etc.

Its easy to fit a 0 offset in a lancer if its a 3inch wide rim. But you definately wouldnt fit a 0 offset rim if its 9 inchs wide. Not without epic guard work anyways.

@98_lancer, if you like the look of my rims or Res's rims, they are 17x7s with about a 40+ offset.

If you like Lachys rims, they are 16x8s with a 20+ offset.

If you planning on adjusting camber and strecthing tires, you normally have an offset in mind anyways.

@ 98_lancer, you should start a ride thread, i like your car, everyone on here drives coupes, need more sedans!

Im rolling 17 x 7 +42 with 205/40 tyres and it rubs on plastic wheel arch lining at full lock. This is at stock height.

I would say stay below +40 offset.

thanks guys,

im looking are getting 15-17" inch rims, and i wanna run like a 7.5" tyre on the rear.
from what im reading i should get a +38 offset ??

i love how quick i get a response, ill do up a ride thread soon :)

7.5tire or rim?

Do you plan on rolling your guards or running coilovers?? If not i suggest stick to a 7inch rim as maximum.

In terms of rim size, its up to you, if you want to put bigger brakes youd be best going 16s or larger, 15s can be very tight squeeze.

38+ is a pretty safe offset.

Have you got a style in mind?? Large flat rims, Dished spokey rims etc?

7.5" TYRE, possibly only a 7" tho

i was gonna roll my gaurds, but my rear bumper is moulded with my arch. and if i roll the gaurd, the bumper will poke out and look weird...

rim style, im not sure of. i was gonna import some Konig's or Rota wheels from the us, but not sure now...

i saw these on ebay, and they look alright for $1,000 including postage, new tires, wheel nuts and come pre-balnced.

SPOT ON!
+40 offset.

tyres are 205-40-17 and rims have +40 offset. should these fit with my super low springs?

sorry for the n00b question, im just new to modding :)

Don't take my word for it as I'm only a noob who's learning myself but 205/40 R17 sounds like you'll decrease your rolling diameter a little too much, you might want to look at either 215/40 R17 or 205/45 R17.

Happy to be corrected.

Daniel
