Bottom Engine Pulley Removal ?

Guys, i an wanting to replace the timing belt on my 1.8 engine, my only concern is ; is there a pulley locking tool you can buy or make up to hold this bottom pulley so the bolt can be undone ? i do have a rattle gun but don,t think it has good power to undo this bolt so i thought just incase be prepared with the old school socket and bar job.

ther is a couple of methids noted on this forum already in some peoples ride threads i think both matty and res have done it. High powered rattle gun would work best. put car in gear to lock it up. Have heard some people have put a bar on it, jamed it on the ground then cranked engine to undo.

its possible but dont do it

as for the bolt, we got mine off 1st time with a electric 12v DC impact gun from bunnings
those things are sheet, but it worked

second time used my dads hipower air impact, which took longer than the electric one did :p

best bet is to know which way u need the bolt to go, then a few quick jolts, no need to hold it thats just going to turn over the engine
also keep in gear

thanks , before i attack the top end areas i might just try the impact gun i have and if no go try the socket / bar / hammer hit and if still no luck i thought i might just go to the local mechanic and ask him if he could loosen off this bolt as i need to fit a new pulley , won,t mention a timing belt replacement .

if you take it to a shop to loosen it off they will see the belt is worn out and my not do it so they can get a sale to to the new belt. you should be able to do it with the methods that have been said without much of a problem

how are they going to see the timing belt ? all i wont them to do [ as a last resort ] is just loosen off the bottom pulley bolt abit so i then can come home and safely remove this bolt and pulley then the rest . as long as i can get this horrid bolt undone alittle all will be fine.

cause the belt is on the pully they would be loosining, the cover needs to come off to get to the bolt dosnt it?

If you're doing the 100,000km timing belt, I've been advised by multiple people to get the water pump done at the same time, it also saved labor costs since they can be done at the same time. But you probs already know this.

thanks Skippy. yes i will be doing the timing belt kit along with the waterpump. what i do need to find out is ; what waterpump is for my engine ? there seems to be 3 different types for the 1.8 litre and can,t work out why.

Because they'd be one for the drivers side orientated CC 4G93, the passenger side orientated CE 4G93 and possible even one for the CM5A 4G93
