Big brake setup

Front left brake decided to pack up today and seized, didn't notice till I got out of my car and saw it was literally on fire.

Because of this I decided it was time to upgrade so i've bought a set of CM5A calipers+Brake lines. I went to get discs for them but was told there was two options, something about the thread (Please help)???

Anyway I'm trying to figure out what else I will need, hoping to convert the rear drums as well. whats involved in that?
Sorry if I'm going over a subject thats been covered before.

lololol... rear disc conversion lololol.... have fun :p

henry could give u definite info on what disc you need for the GSR brakes

as for the rear disc ocnversion, find a proton wira, get the whole rear control arm incl. hand brake lines, caliper, brake line, hub, disc etc. (it has the caliper mounts on it that are needed)
all bolts up into the CE. i'll be honest with you its a *mum* of a mod to do

maybe its just yours thats a pain as you have a braket and not just bolt on, i could be wrong but that would be a first, lol

How did you not notice if your brakes were seized if they were on fire?? Wouldnt it pull massively?

I think for discs, as the CM5As are 4x114 (IIRC) and you have 4x100 hubs, you can either get them redrilled, or you can buy proton wira rotors (make sure its the 1.6L as the smaller engines didnt have 256mm rotors) as they are same diameter/depth/thickness etc, but are in 4x100 (your hub pattern).

Rear drums > disc. Get the wira rear trailing arms, as it will have everything on them. I think Res's were such a PITA as he had to pull everything off his, and put the new stuff back on, where as this way you just need to bolt up the arms/brake lines, run handbrake cable and possibly one or two things i dont know.

I only noticed that my steering felt a little heavy, the brake isnt jammed fully on. They caught on fire after some highspeed motorway work. Needless to say I was extemely embarrased having my car on fire.

Might just pass on the rear conversion, sounds like its going to be a real mish. Will discs from a GTI/GSR CC lancer fit?

LOL dont be embarrassed it happens to the best of us! :D

Dont think so, goto the DBA website search for rotors with

256mm diameter
45mm offset (height/depth)
64mm centre hole
4x100 PCD
24mm thickness

Alright now Ive just got to track down a set of rotors somewhere in NZ. Hmmmm.
Also they came with brake lines, Ive seen some people say that I need to use those lines or it wont work.
And finally, would it be advisable to get a bigger brake master cylinder?

Depends, if they are genuine GSR calipers, then AFAIK they should bolt onto standard brake lines. But i know with the evo 3 brakes, alot of people sell them as evo brakes when really they are VR4 brakes, and you can tell as evos have a banjo fitting, where as VR4s use screw in type. Not sure if there is a similar case with GSR.

Its advisable to get the bigger master cylinder if you can, specially if you are going rear discs. But i think its pretty easy to get away with on GSR size brakes, EVO definitely needs bigger cylinder tho.
You should try to grab the M/Cylinder off the GSR you got the brakes from, as it would obviously suit the calipers.

Definately GSR calipers I saw the car. Master cylinder wasnt available unfortunately but he was selling his old factory manifold, TD04 turbo, intercooler and all the factory piping for 300 which I'm probly going to get. How much of a headache is it to turbo?

If you have heaps of money - none,

If you dont - lots. Unless you have lots of patience and know how.

I was planning on keeping it SOCH and with the current compression ratio, just running wastegate pressure. Aside from the oil\water line to the turbo what else would I need?

Engine management, internals, tune... Henrys done it to his mirage using stock 1.5L engine, PM him about what engines mods hes done to support it.

it sure does tron.... it sure does :p

HAHA yours caught on fire Res? Mine was my old suzuki sierra, I drove it into the dam. That put the fire out LOL

yeh one of my origonal rear calipers siezed one day, didnt catch fire but it was glowing nicely and u could feel and smell how hot it was from ages away

Brakes in. Bit of a mess around with the rotors (idiot gave me 4x114 rotors) anded up with ones from CG? Lancer. Apart from that they bolted straight up using the factory brake hoses. Stops now like you wouldnt believe, except now have to stand on the brakes extra hard.
