Best handling tyre dry/wet?

Just curious on what your guys experience is with different tyres. Wanted to get a set of potenza RE003’s but i’ve been told they handle like crap in the wet.

Thought about yokohama advans but they’re bit out of my budget.

Whats a grippy tyre that still handles well on wet roads?

I have had both re003's and now a set of Advan Ad08rs on my coupe. The 003's are a pretty good budget all rounder but in the wet are not brilliant as you say, and suffer poorly from heat cycling out on the track, letting go with aggressive driving. The 08r's are surprisingly good in the wet, however in my opinion the king of the hill in the category will always be the pilot sport series by michellin. Expensive, yes to a degree, but a general rule of thumb will be that semi slicks *generally* have poorer wet weather performance.

If I had my time over again, I would be saving for a little longer and getting a quality set of pilot sports, tyre size permitting. Have also heard decent reviews of the toyo proxxes too. Main thing from all this rambling is to have a look at what is actually available in your tyre specs to begin with, and then look at some reviews. Many performance sites have done this day in day out in all walks of weather, and they will have all the data.

Pilot sports get my vote

I have used both proxxes and now re003's and can say that the proxes were a decent all rounder and lasted a hella long time too, good on both wet n dry. The re003's have had for 2000kms now and can say they're so far my favorite, handle amazingly for everyday driving and also when giving it guts through hairpins and windy roads. Also have driven them in the wet and so far haven't noticed anything too dramatic in spinning or anything like that.

Mind you I'm running a larger wheel size so tyre is larger too, are you running stockies or got something else on? Tyres will also benefit from suspension work as well, I'm running Bc Gold Coilovers and Whiteline control arms which might make my experience a bit different from a stock setting.

I’ve got the stock oz racing wheels, which are 6” wide, on bc br’s and the rest of suspension is stock.

However i’m wanting to do a 5 lug conversion and fit some evo 8 enkeis onto my lancer, those wheels are 8” wide so idk what tyres benefit from that.

I’m also gonna be replacing the bc’s for some kyb shocks for the vrx lancer paired with tein springs for the usdm ralliart lancer. I also would like to get whiteline control arms for the front too

A cheap good tyre in195 50 15 from kumho hs51 or Marshall mu12. Good wet weather good wear and good dry.
