Another dash cluster question (led strip backlighting)

Ok guys few months ago I replace all the stock globes in my dash cluster with the blue t5 and t10 led lights, looks quite stunning but way to dull, seeing I have I have the white MR dials, makes it very hard to see at night. Basically my idea was to buy one of those blue led strips and use them as the backlight Aswell. I was wondering if it would be possible to splice it off the dimmer switch or if there was a better way to achieve this?

as far as i know leds are not dimmable?

yes, it shouldnt be too hard, you will have to take the cluster casing apart, put your led strips, or extra leds behind the dials
drill a small hole out the back to run the wires thru
then tap the wires into a 12v source that is active when your headlights are on

a few people including myself have toyed around with this idea, but we all figured it wasnt really worth the effort in the end
i ended up getting some 2watt bulbs which are about 2x brightness of your generic t5/t10's to brighten mine and it worked a treat, however only found white 2watters so it wont help u unless u want to go crispy white

Would the wires from the dimmer be a good 12v source? It seems to have the easiest access point I could think of, I'm not too fairmiliar with car wiring.

i wouldnt recomend it, untillu find out whether the dimmer is using headlight circuit power (as in becomes active when headlights are on)
it may be a aux power, meaning whenever the car is on aux or running the cuircuit is on

you will have to check, the best place i can think of is hooking it to the circuit with the rest of the backlights for the cluster
