Airintake temperature sensor gauge ?

Hey,
Im just wondering if there is a guage that can be fixed to the car that can be wiried to the Air-intake temperature sensor, so i can get a reading of the temperature going in ?

i have done it ;)
cost me about $6-10 if you dont want anything too fancy

need a bottle cap from a coke bottle or similar
need a in/out temp sensor thermometer and voltage gauge from ebay
silicone to seal

wire to out sensor to where the intake resonator thing is, then cut small hole in bottle cap, put sensor thru bottle cap, seal with silicone so its air tight, put cap with sensor in the place where the resonator was and tighten, you now have an intake air sensor and voltage gauge ;)

thats it right at the bottom of the pic (rectancular blue gauge)

Wow thats amazing and it sounds so easy, im defs going to give that a go. How long did it take you to do it ? Thank you heaps :)

WIll this measure the temperature going through the airfilter ?

Or is that the sensor out of the 'in/out temp sensor thermometer and voltage gauge' that you put after the airfilter ?

You wont put the gauge anywhere in the engine bay if you want to look at it while driving.

It will most likely have a few wires coming from it,
2 will most likely be sensor wires, and will detect the temperature at the location of the tips of the wires.,
another 2 wires will probably goto an earth (chassis, battery negative etc) and a 12V power source (battery positive etc) this will turn on the gauge, measure the voltage, and detect the sensors.

put the 2 sensor wires where ever you want to measure temperature. as you want to know intake temperature, I would suggest, one in the engine bay open to the engine bay air, and one inside your intake pipe, as res suggested you could put it in the hole left by the resonator when removed.

remove this

to leave this hole

put your sensor in there, then squeeze a bottle cap in there to help seal it, apply some silicon, and possible a small hose clamp to stop the bottle cap being sucked in. (Res used tape = Ghetto street mods :D )

apparently you lose about 1kw overall. hot4's did a test on it about 10years ago. they put a 2L coke bottle (yes a whole bottle) on there to test and the car gained 3kw, but lost throttle response

lol good job tron on finding my images for me ;)

AIT's over 30* are bad, the furthur u go up from 30 the less power you have, if you have pod in the engine bay i recorded 75* in summer... thats a massive power loss
any AIT's under 25* start getting good gains, in winter with CAI i got 0*.... power was epic

lesson to all ye' non cai peeps, your drawing in 75* in summer and about 60* in winter, not good at all for performance

Okays, so if i do put one of those sensors, where i take out the resonating chamber will it affect my car ? And does a resonating chamber do ? I dont know alot about cars as you can see lol

resonating chamber is supposed to quite the noise of the intake, also maybe gives 0.5hp its a rather irrelevant part for performance
if you remove it make sure the coke bottle lid seals it well, if you have a 1.8L engine and its not sealed well it will make ur car chuck a spaz then u kno u just need to seal it more

its just a hollow chamber thats all

also @ tron im not that ghetto, the tape is to hide the lake of silicone inside the bottle cap, it sealed up good
and the gauges temp readings 'in' temp is measured from a sensor in the actual gauge, and the 'out' temp is the one you have to put where u want
