Air Con Pump

Hey guys,

Does anyone know much about the air con pumps in the CE's

Mine is a little noisy and is noticeably pulling down the motor when it kicks in.
After driving another 1.5L this weekend and seeing that having the air con on makes bugger all difference to the other.
I think I might look at replacing it, I love my air con.

Is it worth getting a new one(probably big $$$), or picking up a second hand one and hoping its ok ?

Every 1.5 ive driven noticably brings down the power. It should as the engines got piss all power. Itll be a noisy bearing in the front. Get it looked at before the compressor seizes and ur up for a new condensor and receiver drier. If its not overly noisy u should be fine. Ps, unless its hella bad this should not effect your a/ c quality.

Thanks, Joshy.

Cant be too bad, the A/C is still COLD as.
But it is fairly noisy, has a bit of a whine to it, specially once the clutch on the unit clicks over.

Hopefully its just a bearing and an easy fix.
I'll have to put my head under the bonnet sometime this week.

ye my air con compressor is getting noisy aswell recently, even when the air con isnt on theres a bit of a high pitched noise not loud but noticeable coming from it, getting on my nerves, could it be a bearing aswell? Sprayed wd-40 on it no difference made

same with mine lol. its very whiny when it's on, a bit noisy and noticeably drops the power in my 1.8. But i thought that was normal. It's basically the same in my mates 1.8 ce too

It made my LOL a little when I realised that if it want any sort of power, I have to flick off the A/C switch when I want a bit more go.

I'd say some of the Sydneysiders would know the hill going up from the end of the M2 off Abbott Rd at Seven Hills
Approaching it coming from Parramatta way, A/C off... 10 more kilowatts, POW! :D

check the clutch on the front of the a/c compressor. An easy check is to hold a long bladed screwdriver and rest it on the a/c pump then hold the other end to your ear, then turn the a/c on and if the a/c clutch is noisy you will hear a definate change or rumble through the pump, obviously dont put the screwdriver near any moving parts!
