2011 usb trouble

Hi,

I just want to know if there is any possibility of updating the firmware in the usb port of my 2011 Lancer. I have a 120gb ipod and am trying to get it working with the car but it won't work. Mitsubishi themselves have been unclear and unhelpful on the matter.
 
Is it working at all or just not charging?

At a guess I'd say the head unit needs the update, if there is one.
I would have thought if it's the factory HU them Mitsubishi should be able to help.
