2005 4G94 Lancer ticking/pinging sound in engine bay

Hi everyone hope you are well,

I am having a hard time diagnosing a rattling/ticking/pinging sound from my engine bay, honestly not sure if it's the engine or something else. Noise is hard to describe but imagining a ball bearing bouncing around on metal is pretty close.

Hard to get a video but can try if necessary, here are my observations so far:

- Currently 231k kms, last serviced 229k kms (3 months).
- Not sure if noise has been happening since I got the car, but have noticed it for at least 3 years (about 30k kms)
- Noise occurs in any gear, but most noticable in 4th and 5th
- Sounds like it is coming from directly in front of drivers seat as opposed to in the middle where the actual engine is, but this is just a guess
- Intermittent sound, best way to reproduce is to apply 50-75% accelerator while going up a hill. Less than half or more than 3/4 the noise seems to go away. (However, noise has rarely come during WOT and while engine braking (3k RPM 3rd gear) down a hill.) Keep in mind that there are times when I can apply any throttle setting and hear nothing.
- Noise isn't linked to any particular RPM range, however seems to quieten down past about 4500rpm
- Seems to only occur while driving - can't reproduce while inspecting engine bay.
- Other than this sound, car is running perfectly
- Acceleration doesn't seem to be affected while noise is happening

Things I've checked so far:

Air filter (changed 3 months ago)
Throttle body (cleaned about 10k kms ago when diagnosing misfire)
Spark plugs appear to be all good (about 12 months/8000km old)
Coil packs working normally as far as I can tell (I don't have a scan tool or any CEL)
Valve clearances checked and adjusted 3 months ago
Suspension and engine mounts were checked just after I serviced it 3 months ago.

Only other info I can think of right now is that I run car on 91RON and I've been averaging 8L/100km since I started keeping track. The noise also used to occur when I ran with E10.

Any insight would be appreciated, if I've missed anything please let me know.
Thank you in advance

Does the sound increase in speed with RPM? Id try half a tank of 98 fuel just to rule out octane as the issue
