hi all
as the subject stats i fitted a 2.0 into the ce mr last weekend...now noticing when cold the idle revs higher than the old motor, up to 3000 down then up again for longer....also, theres a clunk in the front end....it only works on throttle and constant idle and goes away when i put foot on clutch...the front and both side engine mounts seem ok, but cant seem to see to rear one..sounds like an exhaust rattle on startup just a slight clunk...just had to headers cut and a piece added as it was leaking at the flange and hitting the sump....what could this be? its really annoying

thanks guys

firstly... which 2L engine, 4g94 or 4g63 or 6a12 or etc etc....

is it possible to take a video of whats happening and upload it, would help with the diagnosis alot, descriptions are only so effective at conveying what is wrong

these always end up with the asker taking it to a mechanic, so why not start there, beter then trusting this bunch of twits...lol

hi sorry for the late reply its a 4g94..found out problem...its the crossmember touching the bottom of motor/box....changed the gearbox mounts and he clunk still there...should i be putting in a new crossmember from a cg? where the motor came from, will it fit..? this never happened with the 1.8l, so i was thinking the sump sits lower? i dont want to do any damage...thanks guys

No you dont have to use a CG 4g94 cross member. Who told you that?
Ive done a few 4g94 swaps into CEs and dont have this problem.
It could be a bent cross member or the front of your car has been hit from the bottom and caused it to move up. A big hit from bottoming out on the tow hook will cause this.
Otherwise front of the car is not straight from previous accident repair.

The 4g93 and 4g94 top piece header is the same.
The lower piece is different which is why you have to and 35-40mm of pipe to clear the oil pan. Or you could find lower front pipe of a 4g94 but wrecker will charge you alot more for that than if you just modify the front pipe. Other than that it will fit fine.

If you have the gearbox area touching the sump it may be the front and/or rear engine mounts and not the gearbox one.

What thottle body are you using? Have you tried to
I presume you are using the 4g93 intake manifold and crank sensor as well as the 4g94 have different wiring.
You may have to change the cam sensing cylinder. This is mounted on the cam. You remove the cam sensor housing and you will see it.
The engine wont actually need the cam sensor to run amd may just throw code from what i remember but to running optimally with the stock ecu it needs to sense the cylinder cycles properly.
The cam sensor is also different on the 4g94 as you can see the connector is obviously flipped position.

hi yeh had the exhaust manifold extended to not hit the sump...so the sump is different then? get a 1.8...hens ur in sydney right? would u be able to chk this out for me on weekend? im in campbelltown on weekend...

What ecu you using? is one of the throttle body tps's 3 wire and one 4 wire? If you used to have a 4 wire and went to 3 wire that will probably your idling problem. I used the 4g93 sump so my 1.8 exhaust cleared the sump. Check for loose bolts causing a resonance, I had one with one of the power steering brackets come loose and rattle like a *mum* higher in the rev range until I found and fixed it.
