what brand is better

what brand piggy back ecu would be best to use for a 4g94 with k&n pod filter, extractors and 2 1/4 inch exhaust and are the reprogrammable for future mods i'm just asking because i don't have much experience with this kind of thing

I wouldn't get a piggy back at all... Either get a retune of your current ECU, or go a full standalone, because a piggy back is only usefull upto a certain part. and the list of mods you've given us dont seem to warrant a piggyback

piggybacks are rather useless in the grand scheme of things, your better off going full stand alone which is around the $1,600 mark tuned and installed possibley more
or ecu reflash which is kinda rare to be done

ecu reflash's aren't that rare.
there's a bloke over in WA i think memcals.
send your ECU down to him and say what your doing and he re-tunes it and sends it back to you.
only couple hundred bucks for it to. does a good job he did a friends commowhore for him.

i contacted pulse racing in sydney and they said about 1200 for a reflash on the stock ecu but they weren't even sure about doing it and said it was an unusual thing to do

forget piggyback ECU. They work well with motorcycles, but those boxes (such as a PowerCommander) are eminently tuneable, unlike Memcal or piggyback modules...

If you want to be able to tune yours, buy a Motec computer.

Either way, that is not the best use of your money, in modding your car, ATM.

i'm looking at getting a stage 2 cam for it and i'm pretty sure it will need a retune and i want the ability to tune it more in the future with additional mods

I see your point, why not take it somewhere that can dyno-improve it, once your cam is in.... let them worry about it. You searching and buy something may only cause more issues...

Leave this to professionals.

who would be the best to take it to and what would be a reasonable price for a tune if i install the cam myself and will it still be driveable without the tune or will it cactus the motor

NO NO NO.. I wouldn't install it yourself, you will probably need to have this at the shop that can also tune it (if in fact it is required).

Yellow Pages, is your first search tool...

A good place to take it to is initially a mechanic! One that specialises in 4-cylinder performance is a bonus....!

People around Wollongong might chime in here, but if they don't...take heart, there is always the Yellow Pages, the telephone and you getting off your @rse...

you could well fry your engine running camshaft without tune, ignition and fuel mapping would need to be adjusted otherwise u may be running quite lean or even pre det

ok thanks for that. i tried mrt thinking that they would be a good start but the said they wont bother with it as they only do turbo cars and i thought that was a bit strange

Back in 1991, when I had a Bluebird TRX, I had an FJ20T motor installed. I took off the turbo and the injection and made it a twin twin-SU carby setup.

I had twin lumpy cams put it and this was all done by a local mechanic in Nowra.. point is, you probably don't even need a Fast 'n Furious type shop to do this..

Get on the phone mate, ring around, best option.

yeah i'll try a few locals but wont they need a dyno for the tuning of it because not every mechanic has one

for tuning most likely, but not for the install of parts

Mate, I don't mean to be rude... but we seem to be almost spoon-feeding you a bit...

You're correct, not every mechanic has a dyno, but most will be able to govern the car's operation by timing it, then using a 4-gas analyser to at least get it operating well-enough... you may even have to tow it to a tuner if they are sceptical about it's driveability.

You may be fortunate to find a performance shop, that has both the mechanical expertise and dyno in the one shop....

I am sorry I do not have the answer you want, I live in Queensland (in a fairly backwater place called Toowoomba), but even I can find such a shop around here....just looking through the Yellow Pages.

I wish you luck.

backwater place hey.

If he can't find one in Sydney or Wollongong...there is no hope for any of us! Even we drive to Brisbane from Toowoomba for specialist stuff... so no excuse for Wollongong-boy....!
