Turbo Mirage 1.9LT

Small update.

I got a "new" steering wheel to replace the old one
Introducing the 1994 FTO DE3A wheel. Direct fit. Really really good condition for what I payed for it. Looks very nice in the Mirage.

The Momo wheel I had came from an 1991 Isuzu Gemini AWD turbo, when lotus did all the suspension for them. Shame because I really liked it. But it's been daily driven for over 4 years, and getting really worn, don't wanna damage it anymore. Debating either selling it, or keeping in my office displayed somewhere
Gotta frame the lotus, piece of history

My only new "mod"
Because I'm lazy and don't like using they key. Cheap easy "mod"

Found my oil sandwich plate gasket had a split and was pissing oil out. Gasket is quite old now and been through many swaps and constantly on and off

Small update
Replaced the fuel pump sock, was pretty dirty, the inside of the tank was so clean, could eat food off it, E85 really cleans it all out.
No rust in the tank, new sock was $17, I have dropped the tank that many times it doesn't take to long.

My favourite new change

Got a "new" muffler from @donki dates back to 2013 from the tag on the side. Lol
Sounds really good compared to the big muffler I had before
Also really like the look of the dual tip in the mirage sports lip. I made a fully functional one.
I couldn't find ANY dual tips that went from 3" to 2 2" pipes. So I used a header collector that went from 2.5" to 2 2" pipes which fit perfectly, then aluminised steel as the tips themselves, any mild steel has been painted black, to hopefully hide any rust. I think it looks good, sounds really good
Fitted as best as I could on the ground using jack stands to hold the muffler up lol

this is the evo oem cover you you can access the fuel pump from inside. quite handy! (just need to cut the floor out to suit.)
Hmm, even for the standard CE fuel tanks? Would still need to get under to undo the 2 fuel lines and the 8mm nut on the side of the fuel tank?

Cutting the floor out isn't an issue lol.

from what i remember, same location. gives you enough to drop off all the lines

I'm super glad I found this thread while searching lord knows what regarding my mirage (thread captivated me).

What a genuinely awesome treasure trove of things that tickle me just right. Some day down the line I hope do at least 30% of what you've managed. For now I worry about an exhaust leak and worn bearings.

Quick questions (feel free to ignore):

How do you access the fuel pump to replace the strainer? I thought it would've been similar to the fuel gauge sender... (the old filter was dripping brown stuff (OEM filter 130000kms) and the car was essentially sitting for about a decade so I can imagine the gunk in the tank/strainer/etc)

How did you get remote boot unlocking you wizard!! And does your remote locking (assuming you have) unlock passenger and driver?

I see you have the climate control thing - can you delve into how you got that to work?

Are the fog lights OEM, and what's the best way to go about power windows/mirrors?

Loaded message as its late and I'm nerding out

Tl;dr top 1 most awesome car ever

Most of the unanswered stuff is on his other threads(climate control, power windows ect

Only reason I asked in this thread as the mods were done recently and hastily so I assumed steve would have some tips and tricks (and maybe wants to share). A lot of the other threads are 1) old 2) discussions (not very step by step) 3) images are lost to time. But yeah you're right I should just bookmark old threads and figure it out myself

Thanks for the comments.

I'll try to answer best to what I know.

Fuel pump strainer/filter, drop the fuel tank to do that. I have dropped the tank way to many times that it's an easy job for me now. Just make sure tank is empty lol.

Rear hatch release uses a cheap eBay universal actuator that's wires up to an aftermarket remote locking kit. (All of my wiring stuff is from my 98 coupe from way back) It had central locking and I wired in an kit. It's got a boot unlock button that I wired up a ground relay trigger to open it. Very simple. No forum post used done all myself.

Climate control is a mix from EVO and FTO parts. I used that exactly same post from Auslander that was created in 2011 or 2013. (Can't remember) I used whatever info was on that post. It worked for me, granted I did that swap maybe 2020/21 I can't remember now. ( It was done on my white coupe)

Foglights are not oringinal from Mitsi. I got stooged by the guy I got them off. Granted payed $50. Made my own brackets for them. I spliced the factory plugs into the foggies. They used the factory plug/ wires, which clip into the factory loom. As my OG 98 coupe had all the wiring.

Powered windows and wiring for my mirrors are all Mitsubishi original wiring from my OG 98 coupe. BUT the mirrors I have now are factory Evo 4 and 6 heated and folding mirrors. I made my own looms for all of them. Using an FTO module and switch, all my own wiring. (Sadly my passenger mirror no longer folds, no idea why AND I even bought a new
brand new mirror... And it still didn't work :( ) folding mirrors and heated mirror wiring was done myself with a tiny bit of research using some lancer forum from the states

Alot of the info was taken from Auslancer. If not research from other places online, or trial and error. Sadly I haven't documente
d alot if it. Hope that helps @SomeRandomGuy

Also these mods have not been done hastily. Some have been close to 5/6 years in the making. Some 4 years. Some recently.
Sometimes I do a bunch of work before posting, other times I forget to post things. Other things have been easy to do. It's been quiet awhile

Cheers for getting back, and sure does help!

And I mean hastily as in the time between start of thread til now. PS Transferring engine, looms, interior, the kitchen sink, along with posting all within weeks/months is some crazy efficiency so mad props to you! (It's given me the kick up my arse to get to work searching and buying parts I've been procrastinating on)

Can't wait to see more as it comes!

Thanks man.

Swap was easy for me only because I have done it SO MANY TIMES lol
It's second nature. Although still can be a PITA for some things
Full swap from my coupe moving EVEYTHING over was the worse and never want to do it again. I worked alot of late nights.
Got it done quick as I didn't want to shells in my garage and my Magna parked on the side so I needed the coupe stripped asap.
P.s. how did you know about my kitchen sink :flushed:
